kinda noob in comp hardware...wanna ask i put in two 512 rams in my laptop but it shows in the control panel system only 894 in the control panel...why does that happen?
*
because the onboard video is using some of the main memory.

Perhaps the answer lie on the mobo itself which in the first unable to support the RAM in the dual channel mode.

The best way is to refer to the motherboard's manual for confirmation.
*
jchou87's case is not about dual channel. it's the mobo that doesn't accept that piece of ram.

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding RAM Dual channeling.

My computer has 4 RAM slots, 2 blue and 2 red. I have 2x256mb RAMs in the blue slot. But I also have a single 1 GB RAM slotted in one of the red slots (the other red slot empty)

Once I load up my PC however, CPU-Z states that they are running in Single channels.

Do I need another 1GB slotted in the other red slot to make it run dual channels?

Thanks
*
dual channel runs in either 2 or 4 sticks

I'm thinking about adding heatsink to my ram. Which one should I get: ramsink or heatspreader?

ramsink is better, but costs more

I have a small question.

What's the difference between Kingston and Corsair? Is it Kingston is value ram while Corsair is quality ram?
*
Just the brand different.
Kingston Value Ram (KVR) is value ram.
Corsair Value Select (VS) is also value ram.

Just wanna post a miserable experience at this era of crazily priced ram.

I bought a pair of Adata XPG DDR4-2666 ram from Lazada during Lazada's birthday sale, approx RM800 wallet damage. I could sense that Adata is clearing it's DDR4-2666 stock, while others were clearing DDR4-2400. PCMR probably laughing at these puny speeds. Hoping to find GSkill SniperX 3400 but no where to be found locally.

After 6 business days of waiting, finally NinjaVan courier arrived (via his personal car doh.gif ) in the afternoon (approx 1:30pm). Yay. Time to unbox:

Nice packaging (with the magnetic flip cover) but...

cry.gif Failed to POST cry.gif

This is on my ASRock Z170 Gaming K6 motherboard with the latest UEFI/BIOS 7.40 (7.40 is just Spectre and Meltdown fix from 7.20).
Reset CMOS, power cycled, different RAM slot combinations, even try with just 1 stick of ram - I've tried all but failed - debug code 55. cry.gif The RGB lighted up, cycling the rainbow color, but fail POST. bangwall.gif

After losing all hope, I re-inserted back my trusty Corsair ram and powered up my pc to initiate Lazada's defective product return. Then rush to the nearest PosLaju at 5:00pm for return. Didn't know that I have to bring my own box/packaging, ended up paying RM3.20 for a stack of PosLaju plastic bags just for a proper packaging of these ram boxes. bye.gif

I thought I could score a good deal on Lazada but end up getting a lemon. Sigh. Luckily didn't waste any precious voucher on the purchase. Anyway, pray that I'll be getting my Lazada refund asap. cry.gif

ADATA's after-sales service seems not bad.

Why is that guy having problem with the RAM too? Did he bought it from Lazada? I'm not in that FB group, so I don't know the details. If XPG D40 is not compatible, what did Adata provide as a replacement?

Anyway, it's weird that ram product page doesn't exist in Lazada anymore.

I joined a few fb ram group. Some said although a ram support AMD (Ryzen), it may not support intel. doh.gif
let's say I have a Skylake rig now, and I plan to upgrade to Ryzen in the future, I can't even be sure about ram compatibility on both platform. cry.gif
this makes ram purchasing extremely difficult. doh.gif

Modern CPUs have integrated memory controllers and the latter have rather unique peculiarities that affect their work, particularly when operating at overclocked frequencies above the JEDEC standards. For example, AMD’s original Ryzen processors are incompatible with high-performance memory modules designed primarily for Intel’s Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs. Meanwhile, Intel’s Coffee Lake processors require different sub timings at DDR4-4000 and higher speeds than Kaby Lake CPUs.

Just wanna update that CUDO Malaysia is no longer an authorised warranty centre for Corsair.

For Corsair warranty, kindly contact Eternal Asia for enquiry.

u may use typhoon burner to try to read your ram data
http://www.softnology.biz/files.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2iZavugowE

generally, any laptop ddr4-2133 should be supported. inserting a 2400 ram will auto downclock it to 2133.
