As we recently announced, we've been working to add optional two-factor authentication to Dropbox accounts. To prepare for this, we're posting an experimental forum build which changes the way sign-in works on the backend. We'd appreciate it if you could unlink and relink your account after downloading this build, and report your experiences in this thread.

You can unlink your account as follows:
Click on the Dropbox tray icon.
Select Preferences.
Select the Account tab.
Click on Unlink this Computer.
Select Unlink when prompted to confirm.

Python 2.5 was released in 2006. We developed the Dropbox client using it and it has served us well. In 2010, Python 2.7 was released. There are so many useful features and performance improvements that we decided to start using it. The result is a Dropbox client that is faster to run, and easier for us to develop new features. We've also added a bunch of new features for you to try out!

Important Note: We've given this build a thorough testing but we made a lot of changes so we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise.

Notes:
Startup time is fairly long on OS X, we are aware of the issue.
Because of the above, the new double-click installer might take a while. Don't keep clicking on it or you will end up slowing your machine down.

Today, we're very pleased to release a preview of a new feature we've been working on. Introducing a newly redesigned Dropbox menu for the desktop client:

This new popup combines all the functionality from the older tray menu with a new view of your Dropbox's event stream, letting you see your (or other people's) latest changes. In addition, you can use the events to easily view, share, or restore files.

Keep in mind this is still a work in progress. As such, we're looking for your feedback, comments and suggestions while we iron things out.

Here are a few things you should know:
This feature is not localized in languages other than English.
It is only enabled on Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and above, and on Windows XP and above.
It is not enabled on Linux.
The button to quit Dropbox has been relocated to the Preferences window.
Tooltips are not supported inside the popup.
Screen readers or assistive devices are not compatible with the popup.

Today, we're (re)introducing a shiny new feature: a new tray popup that combines the old tray menu features with a timeline of the most important sharing events in your Dropbox. For instance, if someone shares a link with you, you can now see it immediately! Moreover, if someone shares a folder with you, you can now accept or decline the invitation directly from your desktop. Not only are you notified of these events in real time, but you can easily get to them later.

This is a brand new feature and we're just getting started! As such, we're looking for your feedback (and bugs!) while we iron things out.
