to record HD video, this is what I gathered from the net:

from component video out, use component video capture card +HD fury
from satellite TV, use skybox/openbox
for astro, use byond PVR

You need this splitter to strip HDCP.

Then you can look for HDMI HD recorder from LYN or Hauppauge HD PVR 2

http://mydigitalport.com/my/product_info.p...products_id=110

Astro/Unifi IPTV ---- (HDMI-HDCP) ---- > HDMI Splitter (make sure it strips off HDCP signal) ----- (HDMI-non_HDCP) -----> HDMI HD Recorder

Im using Elgato Game Capture HD

+ No power supply needed
+ Can streaming live while recording
+ Can do commentary while streaming & recording
+ Superb Quality
+ Amazing software that has built in video editor for mac and windows and can stream live, do voice commentary or upload straight to fb, youtube etc
+ Can record anything including BluRay, PS3, Astro and Hypptv straight via HDMI but HCDP stripper is needed.
+ You don't need any powered HDMI splitter coz it has HDMI output that go back to the TV. Only USB output go to computer for recording.

Mysetup - the empty HDMI output port can go to other monitor or back to TV

The small white box is the stripper also no power supply needed (less than RM50 in ebay, now all gone so goodluck finding it)

You really need this because hypptv content is HDCP protected, if you attempt to record it without the stripper, the whole hypptv box will go panic, flickers then drops its resolution to 576p automatically.

Sample HD videos recorded using elgato gameHD + HDCP Stripper : Hypptv, Avatar BluRay, Lady Gaga bluray (Of coz youtube compressed these videos)

Thanks for the useful information. Now it seems the difficult part is getting the stripper. sweat.gif
