She hasn't driven it yet. She drove my dad to the showroom to pick it up and he drove the old car back. She doesn't want my dad to teach her, hahaha..But dunno la, maybe in the next few days she'll change her mind. I'm supposed to teach her when I go back though.
*
i think it will take time to get used to the CVT
i saw ppl in exora rev the engine uncontrollably
and for the highlighted part...i think your mom got her point, if shes driving and your dad sit beside...thn i think sooner or later, your mom would rather take the bus

Her driving is ok, in fact, very good if I may say so myself. Not like those typical aunties, and definitely better than most of the younger female drivers out there. My dad on the other hand is the total opposite. Very calm, very professional, but HEAVY FOOTED. He said that's what happens when you live you've lived almost 35 years of your life on an oil rig. Anytime he sees open roads, he guns it.
*
switching from manual/auto to CVT isn't abt driving skill i think
correct me if i'm wrong
its more to getting used to
its more like moving from "have gear" to no gear
i saw a lot of ppl with their exora...revving it when driving inconsistently
i think they're waiting for it to change gear or something...or no power...i dn't know

Guys, update on my flx se, the drum brake changed a new 1, then it was the same again after 2 weeks. making me suspect they didnt change it.

now is about 2 months, the sound is still there, plan to go other service centre when i am free.

Now got some problem is, morning when i start my car, it is always need to wait till 2 square of heat level only can drive smoothly without jerking/choking. Anyway to improve this?
*

Coolworld seems to be a reputable outlet...I think.

Actually I think Proton shud have put disc brake for SE. Cuz all proton 1.6 car also got 4 disc brake. Me no confidence to cucuk at highway cuz scared x sempat brake.

But my colleague all praise say my FLX SE very 'Gaya'. Got one of my client claim the headlight looks like VW Polo. So, I'm still a happy customer smile.gif
*
haha....dn't worry la
the problem with drum brake isn't good braking or not..no issue
its more to the handbrake part actually
cuz its not as good as disc brake and after u constantly pull it, it will loosen..so u have to tighten it back
and for the "peace of mind" part is that u never know when to service a drum brake
unlike disc brake...u know perfectly when to change the brake pad...and when have problem, its easy to diagnose
drum brake is a little more complicated...and its not as reliable as disc brake

QUOTE(davidke20 @ Jun 22 2012, 07:01 PM)
Partially agreed...but... You forgot to say:

1) rear disc brake if cable loosen gotta tighten cable
2) drum brake can adjust back the brake level if brake pad nipis, but you'll have to bear with the reduced performance with disc brakes
3) if brake cylinder rosak, tukar 1 bijik+labor RM60, whereas caliper service kit is RM25 + labor RM35... abang adik. Drum brake less work, take out and replace, disc brake need to dismantle everything and put everything back together again.

I'm also a rear disc brake worshiper. But not till the extend of spending money on something LESS effective than the stock setups.

p/s: NOT denying disc brake is better, just not comfortable in modifying disc brakes to the originally equipped drum brakes
*
ya...i've no issue with drum brake braking performance actually
my issue with drum brake is that it has alot of small small problem...and quite hard to diagnose and quite pricey to fix compare to disc brake where u'll know perfectly which part to change
and handbrake performance also not as good as disc brake...pulled 5 clicks also something still will slide back..but thanks god my car is auto
and another issue is..because drum brake isn't as reliable as disc brake...most of the time, i dn't dare to pull that mucj handbrake on my BLM(at most 5 clicks, mostly 3 clicks only)...scare it will have problems
whereas on my other car(rear disc brake)..every time i fully stop, i've no worry on pulling the handbrake...cuz i know it won't have any problems

Read this
Henbrek on disc brakes is/was/will never be better than drums

IMO, my experience toward rear disc brake on handbrake is still better than drum brake
and 1st line said if disc brake is so good, why are drum brake still around
answer is very easy actually...becuz its cheap to install
meaning its cheap for car manufacturer to put into their car, but it isn't as cheap for us driver to maintain it
while disc brake is more expensive but cheaper and easier for us to maintain
thats why saga and persona dn't have rear disc brake..only persona H-line, preve and Upward have rear disc brake

my left horn wasn't working 1 week after driving it..
went to fix it during 1st 1000km... now honking like a boss XD

never trusted those tinting from proton.. got it tinted from outside straight away after getting the car lol..
*
proton tint are also branded tint as well..its their workmanship
if u go outside and even choose the most expensive tint...but if the workmanship suck...u will still be going back every week to fix the tint
so workmanship is the key...proton and other car manufacturer cannot do it good enough becuz they dn't have the time to
a "proper" workmanship for the whole car(6 side) will take abt 5-6 hours or more to complete
if u go to a shop and they finished all 6 in less than an hour...thats consider poor workmanship already
a good workmanship require time and patient from the installer

Aiya, dont scare me bro. I just oni done my tinted last week at Kepong  blush.gif
My car already tinted frm Proton. But I make it darker, put 2nd layer. The shop recommended by my fren. They do it in around 1 hour. So far no problem. And my car looks better now with darker tint (I called it Tinted Polis)  tongue.gif

Btw bro V12, u ada workshop ka?
*
its virtually IMPOSSIBLE for a tint done in 1 hour to have good workmanship
the rear mirror alone with demister alone would take 1.5-2 hour already..how can whole car done in 1 hour?..lol
those shop they did shortcut to make it faster actually
1. they never clean your window be4 they tint your windows...and dirty windows makes it not very long lasting
2. your windows will basically become a cutting board....instead of what most pro will do which is measure thn go cut the tint in their board be4 start tinting...these shop did shortcut by cutting a square piece of tint and cut it on the spot on your windows...thats why they did it so fast
and u will see a device that is somewhat looked like used to clean windows...they will use that to swipe the tint on your window so that the tint will stick on your window
and voila...they're done
they didn't even use the heatgun to slowly dry the tint be4 handing it back over to u
using heatgun to slowly dry the tint is very important...thats makes it problem-free for the years to come
my car i sent in at 8AM...i only get back my car at 3PM...it was suppose to be 2PM but he said the rear mirror got some trouble..so extra 1 hour

extra...somemore i saw another joke which is they install the tint outside(outside of the car), not inside which i was like WTF

yup....there was an accessories shop same row where i lived
and i always pass by there
i saw alot of "poor workmanship" there and alot of funky way from them to install tint
a few times already i saw them install the tint outside of the car...not inside
even my younger bro saw it and come ask me abt it

i'm getting lots of bad reviews from Bendix.
there were cases where even the Ultimate model caught on fire after one time of intense braking.
Metal King Titanium, lots of dust and making a lot of noise. So, i dont really prefer Bendix.
Thats why im opting for something else.

Thinking of getting Ferodo Zero, Rapid Stop and still checking on other brands.
*
normal brake pad no matter which also will have dust
even the OEM one also for me consider alot of dust
if dust is your issue thn change to ceramic pad...i'm using them too
totally no dust

no dust mean our sport rim won't become dirty (normally front rim got dirty compare to rear rim), am i right?  hmm.gif
how much does it cost? and how was the brake efficient?
*
yes...u will spot alot of dust gathering on the rim...and yes its front rim
and those dust gather up very fast...u wash it..within 1 week, its back
and ceramic brake pad...no dust at all..rim is clean all the rim
brake efficient...definitely better than OEM ones but i think not as good as those performance brake pad like ferodo of course...my opinion,it really bites when if i brake strong enough

It is obvious that brake pads does produce dust. Im quite skeptical about Ceramic pads because you need to warm them up before it reaches the optimum performance.

My wife will also be driving this car so, i prefer to have the brakes working even when they're cold.

What ceramic pads are you using?

Added on June 25, 2012, 4:29 pm

Its not possible to not have any dust at all, due to the friction produced to stop your car. Less dust, maybe.
My 2cents.
*
brake pad have a few kinds...ceramic is the new kind and its already advertised as less dust and it is...i've got a totally clean rim all the time
braking performance...i find it quite good and no problem
i'm using "Ceramic NAO Brake Pad"..find it in automotive garage
now performance car also uses ceramic disc brake...so it should be fine
