N56VZ I thought its with i7 but maybe its a diff version?
As in my previous thread, they say N56VZ comes with FHD and i7 at RM3599  blink.gif

The N56VZ is the one with i5 while N56ZM is the one with i7.

IMO, its quite worth it. Though i will go with Dell Inspiron 15R SE even though the GPU is weaker.

I've seen a picture of the y580, N56ZM has a better design (IMO too), better speaker like you say and the external subwoofer.
I would still go for N56ZM brows.gif

Lenovo Y580 is built more towards gaming.

Asus N56ZM is more for entertainment/multimedia. Good for watching movies, music smile.gif

Dammit..now they are like having a competition. Thought DELL seems more secured in terms of after sales service.... but this fella is prettier and nicer spec. Really having dilemma.

Anyone know that the 750gb is 7200rpm or 5400rpm?

For dell may the new ivy bridge Xps series better then inspiron. that is same the Asus N56 grade.

660m is just a 100mhz higher clocked 650m. they're basically the same chip. which makes n56 a viable competitor if it offers backlit or a better screen, which anand says it does.

diff la bro... 660m is a gtx.... and 650m is a t if i had not mistaken... gtx comes with 2 chips but performance wise.. around 10-20% more only

somehow feel the finishing not as good as n55sl

GT630M is too weak, no? I am eyeing on a laptop with i7, 1tb hdd, FHD screen and somewhere GT640M. So far only dell 15R but it is a bit ugly or dull...

The one you listed is N56VM. The overpriced and with weak GT630M.

This is the new one, introduced together with N56VZ:

N56ZM-S4079V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920 x 1080) + BluRay@RM3599[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 1TB

Really? If this is true then N56 will be my purchase! Because I dont really need bluray drive, only need i7 with fullHD!

Now just worried about the temperature of this laptop because only one vent at the bottom..

n56 got better screen liao, matte with wide viewing angle. anandtech analysis also very positive, top 5 IINM in most cases(tn panels)

Don't really need a quad core processor, i5-3210 should be enuf for gaming tongue.gif

The advantage is a full HD screen(screen price should be around rm 300 - 400 right)?

1TB instead of 750GB(not ssd tho)

Blue ray dvd drive(don't really need it).

Pay another rm 900. Worth it?

I don't game, instead I need i7 and full HD. Bluray I don't need, so I hope they will release N56ZM with just DVD drive and other specs identical. If around RM3399... It would be perfect!

I also want something like that, but good processors don't usually come without a decent gpu, which ought to add cost. the only choice is to go business line which is stupid cause it's gonna cost you a bomb anyway.

the problem with going to that extra is that if you add another 400 you can get a much better laptop.

I think this is the biggest problem with malaysian pricing for laptops. in US the G series costs less/have significant margin in comparison to the other ASUS line.

not likely/not gonna be a big deal on 15.6'. If you play games only it's something you wanna avoid. But if you do real work with needs for computing power this is something you're gonna have to swallow.

Yup, if you're only using the laptop for gaming, then the i7 is sort of overkill nod.gif
The non-FullHD version doesn't seem to be as appealing as the FullHD version to me hmm.gif

as for SSD on n56, you can replace the HDD but from the looks of the video review you cant swap your optic drive for SSD

used a 7200 rpm before, how much faster is it really is compared to a 5400rpm. i know usa some computer store they allow u upgrade hard disk for a hybrid or full ssd at a lower price. here so far most i know only give free ram.

asus is cheap/ but quality and after sales service are terrible. before buying please read others comment about asus iin the services threat. u will vomit blood if (touch wood) the unit u bought is having problem. from there, u will curse and never look back to asus anymore.

make wise decision lol!

I believe the problem only exist in Malaysia.
When buy check everything properly, test all the keyboard key...etc that should do everything.
Remember to check the version and specs later they scam you by giving a n56vm lol.

I will said get an ultra book coz you will be taking out yo notebook each time when u came to immigration and plus think of a lighter square thing you are going to carry around on a 13 hours flight if u r using KLM. I was seriously pissed tired carrying mine m17 all the way to stavanger norway!

as a complete package, N56 is slightly more elegant.

Better screen, better looks, better material.

I'd wait for a complete review of both though, keyboard ergonomics is a big deal too.

N56 is definitely suitable for people who enjoy movie/music and is not really into heavy gaming... it has a better speaker and the design is just beautful...not to mention the FHD screen compared to Y580 HD...

I am all for this, my friend has a N55 and though the design is different, the speaker is really loud and crisp, and a plus with the external subwoofer.

Hope they will really release a DVD variant instead of the bluray one so that the price can be cheaper~

been considering but no ivy bridge ones here yet i think (not really good in comps correct me if im mistaken). love the lightness and quickness of the SSD ultrabooks but at the same time i need a minimum of a 15" screen (i rage using a 13") and gaming capabilities

Whether its GDDR3 or GDDR5, it doesn't make that much of an impact. In Nvidia's case, GDDR5 have bigger data bus.
G55VW is made purely for gaming while N56 is for multimedia purposes, better design, great audio, etc. It depends on your usage to define 'more worth it'. smile.gif

If not they give you N56VM.
Make sure the lappy you bought has no problem, check the volume @ highest to see if its clear or not.
Check and make sure ALL the keyboard keys are working.
Check the keyboard light (backlit) make sure everything is okay.

Because if you DON'T, you are gonna have a bad time with Asus service center. But if really got problem I suggest not to bring to ASUS service senter although warranty still on. Just send it to computer repair shops..

I actually eyeing on Acer V3-571 i7, but the volumn level is softer compare to my old Acer 2930. Then I come across the Lenovo Y580, but too bad I couldn't wait for the stock to arrive.

Later on I also consider Dell Inspiron 14R/15R SE, but after read some review by some of those users here, I decided to skip this.

I was thinking if I couldn't get the better spec laptop, I wanted something around rm2k.

End of the day, I put my consideration between Lenovo Y480 and Asus N56VZ, the difference is only RM200 betweem these 2 unit, so I took the Asus.

I'm aware of the after sales service by Asus, I personally deal with them few years back when the 1st Centrino laptop was introduced. But I guess nothing is perfect in this world, lets pray nothings bad happen...

Built quality is quite nice.. the palm rest place isn't so plasticky as i thought.. it was something like aluminium in MBP (SOMETHING LIKE, NOT IDENTICAL). Keyboard feels nice but numpad is a little small compared to the normal desktop keyboard though I don't fully depend on it. The screen is nice although not FHD. So far I tried BFBC2, playable settings at 1366x768 with HIGH SETTINGS.

Hah, got my n56vz yesterday.

Official store ran out. But I think one or two still carry the lappie.

Still trying to get used to the key layouts, but overall rather satisfied with it.

Very well designed lappie in my opinion and the sound quality is superb.

Haven't tried playing games with it yet.

It is recommended to check your product before getting out the shop.

that's not small problem if you use the touchpad more than the mouse. eventually it will be stuck at the bottom. My friend's dell has this problem too but he used it more than 3 years so i think it is normal if you used it this long.

I'm also having this same issue. Mine totally cannot use the bottom left corner to click on any thing at all, but the right one function well.

That part totally like no respond even u click on it, it won't feel like bouncing, but if I press it slightly further from that spot, it works with no problem...


Right now I'm try to get used with the keyboard layout as my previous lappy was only 12" in size, so keys are quite close to each other...

Yeah the left corner touchpad is not able to press it one. I guess the design is made like this. Just move a little to the right and you can press it. This goes sames with the right corner.

Guys, when we play games, does the GT650M auto kicks in or need to do some setting for it to run?

Sorry for such a noob Q, cause this is my 1st lappy with GC after more than a decade I didn't play games with a laptop liao...

Plus the backlit keyboard is nice during night time, looks cool and easy to identify the keys...

Right now updating the Windows 7, then will install programs.

Is the any latest update drivers for the HD4000 and GT650M?

and some sifus can also tell me more about the heat problem. what is the average temperature for a laptop? whats the range of temperature that is considered dangerous and how long do i need to play to reach the dangerous range?

There is a setting under Nvidia contorl panel > Manage 3D settings. The preferred graphics processor is "Auto Select" but you can change it to either Intel HD4000 or GT650m

Tomolo going to LYP, to collect back my SGS2 from SC and also bring along the Cooler Master U2 cooler pad for an exchange.

The U2 is not holding the N56VZ firmly, cause the stand of the lappy didn't have full contact with the cooler pad.

Anyone has a good cooler pad to recommend? Prefer those that save space as I need to travel to oversea.

Right now I'm using my old Cooler Master U1 for the N56VZ, which is previously used with my Acer 12" lappy. Turn out the grip is much better compare to the U2.

If there is no better option, I will exchange for the U1 version.

Those who bought the N56VZ, did your sub woofer come with a black cover bag for it? Cause my friend when they buy N55, they got the black cover bag for their sub woofer. But I just a oil paper bag for it -.-
And are you guys feel the startup screen got alittle bit slow speed that you aspect to the spec? I feel its quite slow for the startup even though I cleared those unwanted programs.

Thanks for all the recommendation.

The surface of the U2 is actually nice for the N56VZ, just that the stand of the lappy cannot fully sit on the cooler pad.

U3 is much bigger in size I assume? I know it comes with 3 fans, so will it be quite hassle when I wanna keep it inside my backpack as I need to remove and fix 3 fans each time I'm using / keeping my lappy...

Any other brand of cooler pad which has good reputation as Cooler Master?

regarding the touch pad issue .. i manage to get 1 to 1 exchange ._., so now the replacement unit no problem at all.... haha thumb up to this seller. i buying a little bit expensive la RM 2717 (asus bag, cooler pad, few dvd, anti virus 3 user, wireless mouse,plus add more 4g ram and also good service smile.gif )

the n56zm i7 one not yet reach at the outlet, my vendor get price list from asus supplier one and tell me that the n56 i7 version din have Full HD.
so not 100% true, so no worry!wait and see we will know it soon...

For an example, the price list i received from my vendor for this n56vz i5 one got 1 mistake where the 4Gb ram is 1666 mhz instead of 1333mhz..

so don pening!wait and see..... smile.gif

one thing said only....everything come to malaysia will in diferent package...not only laptop, car or others....
i believe the one show in the site u post just now is oversea 1....

anyway, any info that provide by site and catalog not 100% correct until u see a real one with ur eye balls...then u will know ...

i only can see the outner nia...too bad cant test the performance...cause no unit for display and i think cause of limited stock..
the outlet come only 4 unit stock..and 4 of them also got ppl booked already...
overall is good so far...at least we cant leave our finger print on the cover which is aluminium i think....if compare to the gloss surface for N55
quite slim this lappy...

In melaka,i get it on sunday... then monday change another replacement unit. actually wanna buy in lowyat on sunday, but my friend working in that shop
told me that n56 arrived already, so fast fast grab it. : ) , if u haven buy it, pls check everything, especially the touch pad( bottom left corner,no bouncing) i can see that a lot owner also facing this problem. if the seller willing 1 to 1 exchange then nvm, if not must check gao gao b4 buy it.

Emm i already share all my experience here, only i can say is ASUS did their N56 QC very badly( not sure next batch will same situation or not), because the seller said only 2 out of 5 1st batch stock in prefect condition.(2 touch pad problem, 1 casing small damage), the seller no choice have to send back to Asus.

Btw...... asus n56 still the best in term of design(solid, aluminium casing, backlid keyboard, backlid logo on the casing) performance (no heat issue, gt650m graphic card, instant resume windows , sound system sonic master + mini subwoofer) rclxms.gif

I realise that whenever I unplug the power adapter from this laptop, the Asus Power4Gear will automatically switch from other power option back to Power4Gear Battery Saving mode.

Any idea to make the Power4Gear to remain the power option unchange whenever I umplug the power adapter?

I feel this is a bit hassle that I need to change back to the power option everytime I unplug the adapter.

Experts out there please help me on this.

One more cool feature I discovered is that the touchpad can act like Macbook's trackpad too! You can tap using two fingers to act like right click (this is freaking useful to me when using touchpad and one of the features I like in MBP also). Three fingers swipe up to switch windows (the windows button + tab button slide). Three fingers swipe left to BACK and swipe right to NEXT. Makes it easy to back and next in webpages. Just FYI for those that got the laptop and might be another buying point for those that still in doubt icon_rolleyes.gif

Subwoofer is OK only. Add some boost to the song quality as you can hear the boom boom a bit. The build is great and you feel that its aluminum but its not tongue.gif

It is. It comes with a preinstalled software call elan touchpad if I'm not wrong. I think yes. I also use mouse often but sometimes want put laptop on bed so use touch pad better

i think i will uninstall the Power4gear just like i did with my A52JC, and use the windows battery management will do "BALANCE", "POWER SAVER" and "HIGH PERFORMANCE" later i try and c how.

Guys, whats the best way to prolong the battery life?

Attached the battery and use the power adapter or dismentle the battery just use the power adapter the entire laptop session?

Which one is better in order to prolong the battery life and also protect the laptop?

Do not let the battery drain out completely before charging. At about 10% -15% you have to charge already.
If you plan to have AC power most of the time, remove the battery after it discharges to about 75% (I think)
But you have to use the battery from time to time or it will lose its charge anyway which is bad.

For my review, here's what i got from the new lappy.

1. built - good, solid fell, not aluminium but still got that feel whistling.gif
2. screen - matte screen if my eyes didnt play trick to me and the screen is
sharper compared to my ASUS A52JC (same screen size) icon_rolleyes.gif
3. keyboard - still nt used to it but the backlit.....fuuuuuu....... drool.gif
4. all software developed by ASUS seems better and faster in response (take the WIRELESS CONSOLE - it ill popped out nce u click FN and F2)
5. there are many games inside, hehehe, the flash game biggrin.gif play it while you are bored
6. 4 holes of USB 3.0 - ketat like hell blush.gif

anything you guys want to know tell me, i tried my best to tell you all nod.gif

i didnt ask for the charging battery hmm.gif

but as i know battery nowadays doesnt need to charge up to 8 hours.

anyhow, my dealer has help me charge it full and installed all the software i wanted.

after listening to all user's complaint here, i check and found out 1 is really having the same problem with u guys...touch pad bottom left corner is hard to press....so luckily got another 1...and i tested it and it is ok...nice touch pad...can slide and zoom in zoom out or rotate picture...

not yet try with other game...but i tried with The Elder Scrolls Skyrim with all high setting and it run smoothly...no lagging issue

overall for this N56 is price reasonable and performance not bad as well..

i can tekan whole row at the bottom, my previous one, left corner cannot press only near the middle line can press. but right side can press . so like not balance. that why go get a replacement 1.

wait, right click on desktop - nvidia control panel - at the bar there go desktop - choose DISPLAY GPU - got 1 icon will come out black adn white color - if nvidia ada jalan, it will glow with colors, u try and c biggrin.gif

when i run the test it turns to color, when the test done it become black and white again. but i guess i know where the trick is, i just select the preferred graphic processor to nvidia processor. lets run the test again rolleyes.gif

i was using lenovo z460 before switching to n56. the smiling keyboard is awesome to type.

another thing u can try is startup ur laptop, in the 1st asus logo, tekan F2 then move to the last bar and choose revert back to original setting or sth like this, then u do again the test. u can try, no worries bro, ur location mana bro?

i got RM 2684 included cooler pad U3, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 4Gb ram 1600mhz and some rubbish stuff
if excluded this accessories, i only manage RM2599 for the laptop....

Proud owner of N56VZ-S3088V! Just COD at lowyat from lowyat.net seller, manage to Squeeze until 2570 =) , bare naked lar...with bag pack and everything in the box...

My out of the box experience, tested the touchpad, abit stiffness on the bottom left, right side is ok. Iinitially I thought the holes are real hole which could collect dust, luckily its not..just decoration.
Upon switching on, din expect to have the backlit keyboard on this i5 model, Asus logo has light as well, bundled with lots of Asus Apps which I will remove later, suck up > 1gb ram...Battery managed to last 3 hours out of the box, still have 40-50% now..

Screen is good, no reflection, good view angle..Color and brigthness not as good as Mac, of coz cant compare with IPS.

WIll test the performance tonight...

may i know those who has backed up to recovery disc..may i know how many disc did it burned?
i ask this stupid question cause i forgot to remove my external hardisc while i bak up it..scare it back up the wrong drive.....

i need 5 disc...

how many disc did u guys needed?

I have tested Skyrim, it detected Ultra settings by default. Gameplay really smooth even with dragon flying around. This GT650 is no joke, outperformed my desktop 4870 with same settings.

Sound:
The little woofer add some bass, music is warm...But do not expect it to outperform any branded 2.1 speakers..

Heat:
After 30 minutes gameplay, hotzone is near the fan on the left side, I don't feel the hotness when my palm on WASD area..I'm not in Air cond room, so it could be different if gaming in a cooler place.

You guys really wanna backup the provided stuff? Really waste of storage and resources for me..the default apps consume so much ram and storage..180mb for a screensaver, few hundreds more for powerdvd.

brought my lappie to my seller regarding the low rating. he says it can only detect the graphic card for the test when it is running. so i did but unfortunately the rating is still low cry.gif

so i guess i'll just have to live with it sweat.gif , as long as im still able to play starcraft with ultra setting without any trouble (except for the high temperature.. ohmy.gif )

anyone has a benchmark for dirt3, max payne 3, Alan wake. Medium setting is pretty enough.. would love to see 50 fps+ in this 1366 x 768 reso.

got my n56vz last night in pcexpo pisa penang rm2699 with extra 2 yrs warranty !! sadly our 650m comes with gddr3 2gb not gdd5 1gb its really diff alot during gaming ! anyone knw our hdd comes with 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm?

I wouldn't recommend to add that 1333mhz ram. N56vz provide 1600mhz ram. If we add 1333 the system will switch it automatically to 1333 instead of 1600. My seller try to add this when I ask for another 4gb ram. Luckily I saw is 1333 and I reject it.

Its like for example what's the point for adding ron95 if you are having ron97 in your tank??

dude remember to check the spec for i7, the latest version should be nvidia gt650 graphic card instead of gt630

beside, the gt630 version (n56vm-s3022v if not mistaken for the spec) has no keyboard backlight.

Anyone has their trackpad at the bottom left corner being a bit lower than the palm rest surface? Mine trackpad surface is not even for the bottom left corner and the bottom right corner. The surface level of the track pad at the right bottom corner is exact same level with the palm rest but not the bottom left corner of the trackpad. How about you guys? Can give some feedback on your laptop?

im playing diablo3 with ultra setting and yes it produce alot of heat during the game. but normally other than that the heat temp is ok.

im experiencing some stutter in diablo3, my friend told me is because of nvidia card, radeon wont cause this. is like when u saw bunch of monster it will stunt abit then next second u r in the middle of them.

anyone having the same thing?

i have set it to medium and low but still same thing happens. everything running smoothly even when there r bunch of monster, just the second when bounce into them it will lag a second then a fast forward to get back to where it is. driver problem?

Hmmm.. isn't 1366x768 in 15.6 good enough"? Compared to 23" 1080p, pixel's density is still higher --> crispier right ?

15.6"1366x768 = 10097 pixels / sq. in
23" 1080p = 9176 pixels / sq. in.

Source : tv calculator

Of course, 15.6" full HD even more crispier. But from one who is coming from 23" FHD i dun know what's so bad about it.. And again i7 + gt 650m should maximise GPU capability and play in 1080p will produce less frame rate, yes ? Or gt 650m already maxéd with this i5 ? tongue.gif

Usually if you use a 23" screen you don't position the screen so near to you. So the pixelation is acceptable.

When you use a 15" laptop, most people use it near because usually you type on the laptop keyboard.

i only experienced it in ultra setting for skyrim..
when i run it as high setting, then everything ok and a lot lot lot heat coming out from my laptop...
maybe cause of aluminium....very hot the surface...

I have set to medium setting but still the same, n yes it produce a lot of heat from the vent when gaming!

Add the sub the voice from speaker will be clearer as all the lower will supply by the woofer. Sounds a lot better to me adding the sub!

Just got my Asus N56VZ-S3088V rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

The laptop is awesome. especially the audio and the design. its a little macbook-ish design ( look a little same to me hmm.gif ). and before i decide to buy this, i heard some positive review about this laptop's audio. and i did tried it. The sub-woofer works GREAT. add in some bass to the music. did make a lot of difference.

the graphic card is nice too. play some of the recent games in medium-high settings. works pretty good for me so far.

matte screen. reduces reflection. almost no reflection at all actually. NICE thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

But, no FHD cry.gif cry.gif so makes no difference when i watch movies. but anyways, im always watch blu-ray. so the graphic wont be too shitty.

and another cons is the keyboard. the size of the arrows at the numpad area and the numpad itself are too alike. so its hardly for us to know which is which without looking at it. doh.gif sweat.gif

hmm.gif hmm.gif i wouldnt buy those things YET. since i just got my laptop, im planning to get a cooling pad first before i get to those things. cause the air vents is at the right side of the laptop. so whenever my hands accidentally placed near the vent, i can feel my hands burning. mad.gif
