The Opposition media is having a ball with the recent news on Daniyar Nazarbayev. In case you don’t who know he is, he is the former stepson of Kazakh president, Nursultan Nazarbayev’s brother (what a mouthful!) . More importantly, he also happens to be Najib Razak’s future son in law. The New York Post, citing court documents, claims that Daniyar allegedly conned his stepfather out of a US$20 million Plaza condo as well as his way into Columbia University.
FYI the New York Post has yet to actually publish the actual court documents. It kind of has the same feel when Suaram claimed that they had damning evidence on Scorpene but were unable to take it out of France.
How credible is New York Post anyway as it’s known for its sensationalized style of writing? Well, did you know that the New York Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who happened to be the owner of UK tabloid, News of the World. News of the World was forced to close due to public backlash and the withdrawal of advertising as a result of the phone hacking scandal in 2011. It was discovered that nearly a decade earlier, a private investigator hired by the newspaper had intercepted and deleted the voicemail of missing British teenager Milly Dowler, who was later found murdered. The scandal deepened when the paper was alleged to have hacked into the phones of families of British service personnel killed in action. Incidentally, the New York Post was also responsible for issuing an article, claiming that the hotel housekeeper Dominique Strauss-Kahn was accused of sexually assaulting was actually a prostitute. (The woman has since sued The Post)
Now as for academic fraud, note that Daniyar has graduated from Columbia. What is in dispute is his high school qualifications. Also note that Columbia was made aware of it and it appears that Daniyar was deem qualified to stay in the school. Perhaps he had to retake his SAT exam or maybe SAT scores were used for his admission in the first place? So he has now graduated from Columbia unless NYP is disputing that too?

It sounds like a marital dispute between ex-spouses. Bolat is not a kid, a power of attorney is a power of attorney. For him to now (2012) claim, he was under a different impression of what was supposed to be done in (2008) after their marriage is annulled in (2011) smacks of a stingy ex-spouse worming his way out of alimony.
