hey sifus

Just got the maxis fibre line at my home, currently using the standard technicolor router provided by maxis. The signal quite bad on my 1st floor of my terrace house. I went through some of the post here, any other recommendation on the router replacement or just get a AP? TP-Link? Asus? to increase signal and bandwidth especially on the 1st floor.

Thanks!

If you're using the VoIP or IPTV, you wouldn't be able to change your router unless you are familiar with network configuration. I would recommend using a powerline or if your house is on three phase wiring, you have no choice but to use an extender.

If you're not using VoIP or IPTV, I would recommend changing to a TP Link router if you are on a budget or an Asus router if you have a higher budget.

Most of the new router should able to support unifi / maxis fibre.
Unless you looking for one with VOIP function.

Try 1480 or 1492 for the MTU. VLAN is 621 for Internet.

Wow, thanks for the sharing.
Been using VLAN ID 621 all the while, and normally I have public address of 121.122.XXX.XXX.
After using VLAN ID of 11, I have public address of 14.192.XXX.XXX

Other than IP address change, I am not sure what else is different.

Edit:
It turns out that I did not applied the settings for modified VLAN ID, using VLAN ID of 11 does not get me connected to internet.

Can I use a RJ11 to RJ45 cable to connect the router and the normal landline phone? Will it work?

Don't think so.
Based on your setup, you are using router without VOIP function (no RJ11 port).
Your VOIP phone is a device using RJ45 port from router.

You can used back the original router from Maxis, it c/w RJ11 port.
Or you can buy another router c/w RJ11 port. (VOIP support)

I contacted Maxis Helpline, said if WIFI router faulty can replace for free. Anyone experience free replacement even out of warranty.

Not sure how much I can trust them.

If they say that, make sure you ask the if you need to renew your contract or any other stipulations. However, if you're not using VoIP or IPTV, just get your own router and set it up.
