Hi, i am thinking of purchasing a macbook pro but i'm no longer a student. Can I use my friends student ID to purchase it for me? Will there be any issues regarding the warranty claims and so on?

Random checking for student pricing purchase. If you are selected, they will ask for your student ID.

Those that are not student please do not abuse the privilege Apple has given.

I am a student myself but just awaiting for degree which will be in UK and i don't wanna buy it at UK. Prefer to buy it here in Malaysia and now i'm stuck half way as I do not have a student ID...

Therefore I am wanting to ask is there any issue with student purchase. If not, i can ask one of my collegemate that is still in college to purchase it on behalf of me.

better to ask your college mate, you will have to wait longer if you order yourself and got checked.
eventually they will cancel the order

All my friends who bought their MBP's through the edu store has never been checked before including me. I've honestly never even known about these random checks but yeah.

And the discount prices vary depending on the models. E.g. MBA only RM 150 discount while 13" MBP is 300 and the higher end MBP 15 and RMBP is 600.

But either ways...even after discount...6200 = pricyyyy!

How would the process of letting my friend buy on behalf on me? Do I have to use their credit card, their apple ID and so on? Or just their Apple ID will do?

got to agree with marc79 , if you abuse the account and keep placing the order under the student education than there must be something fishy going on.

but than again why not register different ID and buy from there.

Take note debit card has credit limit even you might have many ready cash inside. Activate overseas purchase with your bank.

Call up your bank, tell them you wana buy something overseas, they will ask you some verification questions, after 5 minutes, you are on!

Debit card is not credit card, you cant simply increase limit even you got many ready cash.

Get a 10k limit debit card. Here -

Student ID check will be random. It won't be there always. But always keep your ID ready in case Apple is asking.
For my case, Apple did not check my student ID.
I used my Brother In Law name who is still a student with a valid student card.

If you can afford it, get the rMBP. If you're not going to lug it around (using as desktop replacement), you can consider a vanilla MBP 15", it comes with a superior processor.

But the rMBP counters that with a well-ahead-of-its time display and fast SSD drive.

Happy choosing biggrin.gif

You can buy online at store.apple.com/my-k12 for Apple Student Pricing.
Alternatively, you can buy at campus retail outlets, however those priveleges are only for students studying there. AFAIK, there is one in Lim Kok Wing Uni and one in Taylor's Uni, both need to show a valid student ID (or you can use your friends ID who are studying in the uni) to buy.

Sorry but you are contradicting yourself.

No indication of STANDBY from what you've said earlier. Bring and standby are two different things. Based on my understanding, 'bring your student ID' means you are referring to a physical store and not online store. You don't need to 'bring your ID' while purchasing online yourself would you?

There is no student info required when purchasing online. Just get ready to answer questions should Apple decides to ask, which they usually won't.

if you want to purchase from physical store, it is possible.
just visit your campus store if your uni has one.
Taylor's Lakeside has one, but you need to be their student to be able to make purchase

There are a few specific retailers that has student pricing thou. Usually its called 'CampusXperience' something like that. They have student pricing, but be prepared to wait for a long time (1-2 weeks) before you can collect it.

Both, online and certain stores. There are few Apple retailers have their shops in campuses.

I bought my iMac through Apple Store Online via the Mac for Education web. You don't need to verify anything and yes, I'm not a student. Just simply go to the Mac for Education page and buy your computer from there. Save me few hundred bucks.

AFAIK, they do random check whether you are student or not.

Not that I know, 3 of my colleagues did the same thing with no problems at all. Apple didn't even ask whether you're a student or not, not online that is. No verification and they didn't even ask whether we're students let alone which college are we're from. Maybe me and my colleagues are the lucky bunch. Maybe cool2.gif

Hi guys, I am planning on getting another iMac, currently having 27inches got a year ago for my office, now planning to get another for house working(in case needed it), but when I check on the price, it's yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif

With budget constraint on Education Price, I can only hit the 21inches, my question is with 21 inches price, should I get Windows deskstop/Alienware or not? I really love iOS been using for so many years, don't like Windows. shakehead.gif

Advice~~~

-Photoshop
-Movie
-Gaming sometimes like Diablo
-etc

I use windows at work and Mac at home and if you are a Mac user all along, its always best to stick with Mac but at a certain point you will get used to it like myself.

Have been using Mac for almost a year and of course many features cannot be found on a Windows at work but many features are not available on Mac as well. Give and take.

From what I see on your requirement especially the gaming part, I would suggest Windows coz Mac doesn't have many games to play. Even if they do, it takes the developers years after the initial launch of the game on Windows to be released on Mac. And with a restricted budget, its always nicer to get a Windows as you can get a better spec with the same price you would pay for a Mac.

True, each has its pros and cons.

Been using iOS for too long since 4 years ago on MBP and now iMac. Alienware is cheaper but offers higher hardware specs i7 whereas iMac is so costly even it's under Education Price but it's still stick with i5 at the moment sad.gif

Not really into gaming on Mac/Deskstop cus most of my gaming will play on my console.

Let me recalculate everything again,
- Add-on on Mac Ram
- Getting LCD screen for desktop separately unlike Mac all-in-one.

Hey guys, I am a college student and I am interested to grab an iPad Mini with Retina Display at education pricing, but when I checked the price on the education store site, the price is just the same as on the normal store.
