INTERNSHIP PROJECT

Developing environmentally sound and socially responsible business processes for long-term impact. A key component of this strategy involves the manual calculation of a baseline carbon footprint of all the facilities, offices and transportation fleets owned and operated by company.

This tool will be developed in-house for security and customization purposes and will be built on an Oracle platform to promote ease of use among stakeholders who will be responsible for tracking the GHG emissions. The tool will incorporate a Master Question List (MQL) which contains all the data that needs to be inputted for the calculation of a carbon footprint and this will be collected separately for each individual site (office, warehouse, manufacturing plant and transport depot) for ease in tracking information.

The carbon footprinting activity will currently account only for emissions that are classified as Scope 1 and 2. Scope 3 emissions are for indirect outsourced activities and will not be reported at the moment. However, the tool needs to be scaleable to be able to accommodate Scope 3 calculations in the future. Scope 1 emissions include stationary, process, mobile, process and fugitive emissions. Scope 2 refers to indirect emission sources from consumption of purchased electricity, heat or steam. The calculation of the overall carbon footprint, for all three Scopes, involves standard formulas using inputted data and standardized constants.

The objective of this project is create, test and validate an IT web-based Carbon Footprinting Tool (CFT) that enables the calculation of carbon footprint for a specified time period based on the manual input of emissions data by various business entities. The resulting data will be available for review on a department, country and corporate level.

Note : We will provide a tranining and briefing before kick start the project.
