This is just a slightly water storage tank, cannot classified as pool. Multiply by the factor of 10  can consider a pool.

Guys, I want to ask is it worth it to have swimming pool at home? I realized the cost rangea from around RM50K to RM100K. those that already have swimming pool at home, please comment? Maintenance wise. After many years, still use or not?

Seriously if you need to consider whether maintaining a swimming pool is expensive, then you probably shouldn't be considering a swimming pool.

Yeah, you know as they say," If you have to ask, you probably couldn't afford it". But I dont really agree. You need to ask to be able to know whether you could afford or not.

A very interesting topic this is. smile.gif
A private pool at home is a dream of many I presume. Not at all because of it gives you a thing to impress the others , but the special chemistry most people have towards clear blue water and the unique factor it adds to make the home even more "home". smile.gif
Not to mention it also gives you a chilly place to dip in and a place to work out a little smile.gif

Now, out of dream and back in reality, it's where and when we consider several factors before giving your yard a facelift.

Perhaps it's not that hard a decision to make.
The 1st question on the list, which is also the stumbling block is definitely cost. When you're sure of a proper financial planning that you'd plan to build and run a pool won't make your life harder, then I don't see what should stop you:)

2ndly, practicality. Would we still be utilizing it after several years? you may think you would, but no one knows even you yourself wouldn't know. So... when everything is within your power to build and maintain it, practicality doesn't really matter anymore.

I, too disagree on the statement "if u have to ask, u probably couldn't afford it ".
Doing research like this one is wise. It's the best thing to do to gather information before purchasing anything.

well, I don't have one at home, yet. But it's a childhood dream to have a pool at the backyard. So if you love something, by all means go get it. Life is short afterall:)

i came to know across a family
2 brothers living side by side a link bungalow
they made a huge fish pond in between
by time they finish it, the kids request to fill up water so they can swim for a while before converting to a pond
lol... sometimes i still can hear kids laughter by the pool
sounds fun! the sounds of pool really refreshing..

Go to Bukit Puchong and check out Aqua and Reflexion show houses.  It gives you an idea of a private pool and if you want it.

How big is your house/land area?  Do you want to put it on your rooftop or in your garden?

My friend told me that a swimming pool adds Rm100k valuation to a house.

A few things you should consider - either liner or cement/mosaics based. Water in the pool tend to get acidic over time, and if the pH is low, it can eat into the cement lining the mosaics, and after a few years, your feet may start to feel the sharp edges of the mosaics, earlier if the mosaics were laid properly in the first place. Personally i prefer the liner type of pool, less slippery, kinder to the soles, and less maintenance.

You can do your own maintenance, or if you have a gardener or maid, teach them how to vacuum the pool. Generally if your pool is located in treeless area, you have less maintenance to do. If your neighbour loves open burning, then you r in trouble.

Go for it, maintenance is not as bad as u think.

bro, just a question. liner sounds better based on my findings even though we wont have the shining effect from the mosaic. i also found out that for liner, it is easier to fix if u have some damage to pool. it is cheaper as an overall too. how much do you pay for your pool bro? please share.

You are right, easier to fix leaking if using liner, and you dont need heavy concreting as base. 10mx3mx1.2m should be around 90k, 12mx3mx1.2m around 110k, 18mx3mx1.2m around 140k, just to give you an idea.

Do note that pools is a hazardous to small children. Lots of kids drown because they fell into pools. Have to install some sort of fencing.

A bigger/lap pool is only 'worth' it if you have children or frequently entertain people at home. But then again, worth is a relative term. If it's just you and your woman, a smaller sized jacuzzi would do the trick just as fine, if not better. You get seats and jets and hot water. You won't be needing all the extra space and water anyway. wink.gif

Hi Amint,
If you are willing to invest those amounts in swimming pool construction then it will be worth for you. Please note that you will need to spend additional money in swimming pool maintenance. Swimming pool will increase the look and feel of your outdoor living. If you are a regular swimmer then it is better to have your own swimming pool rather than using the one in your friend's home. I have my own swimming pool which I built 6 years ago and it stills looking good. The maintenance services are done by Ferrari pools every year and totally it is really worth for me.

Never leave your pool go empty or dirty and became stagnant...it is a very bad feng shui...my friend...even though they hardly swims...still keep the pool clean and running all year long...

Having a swimming pool in house is not an issue but its maintenance is a great issue. The average cost of a 19' diameter above ground swimming pool is $6,243; while the average cost of a 32'x16' inground swimming pool is $21,919. A swimming pool needs its maintenance atleast once in a week. The cost of Swimming Pool Maintenance is usually minimal. The time it takes to take care of a pool is more of the issue; especially if it isn't screened and you have a lot of trees. You can get decent service for about $50 a month or self maintain for less.
