got my s3 last night.  I am using htc Desire before.

How do you guys backup and restore data from old phone to s3?  i am more interested to preserve my call log, sms, whatsapp and a few more app data.

my desire is rooted (MIUI) but my s3 is not.  any idea?

I have try backup to SD in my desire but when i go to my s3, the same app can't seem to find the backup in the SD.

I also just moved from HTC Desire to S3.

For the contact, you can exported all into a vCard file. When you copy that file to your S3, it will detect them as contacts and asked you if you want to import into your phone contact. The other option is to use gmail.

For apps, I use Ultimate Backup to back up all the apps I wanted to transfer. They will be stored with *apk extension. Just copy the user_apps folder to your S3 and then launch each apk to install it. I don't have a lot of apps so I choose to do it manually. I didn't bother with the SMS but I read that there are some apps that can back up your SMS as well.

I think in V6 someone mentioned that they didn't get to see the battery charged to 100%. This morning I work up and then looked at my S3 and saw that it was sitting exactly 100% so I took a screenshot.

Later in the day, i tested the airplane mode just to see how much it will drain the battery and I was surpised with the result.

I checked the battery level (68%) before I turn the airplane mode on the moment I get into the plane and two hours later when I landed at the destination, it remain at the same level. I think this is one of the way to preserve the battery when leaving the phone overnight if not charging.

I also noticed that the new ICS interface has a roaming time display. Coming from Froyo 2.2, I haven't been catching up with the latest Android version so I don't know if this is something new in ICS or it is also available in earlier version like HC or GB. Still it is a nice feature to use when I roam oversea.

Another new discovery I had was that even when the SIII screen is locked, you can also palm over the screen to capture a screenshot. I thought that motion is only available when the screen is unlocked.

I usually switch off the wall plug and then only pull out the usb cable. It is showing 100% at that time.

I am trying to connect my S3 to an Ad-Hoc Wireless Hotspot in Windows 7 but the S3 doesn't see the hotspot at all. I was hoping to share my Windows 7 connection to my S3 as I can only use one device on either the LAN connection or the Wifi conneciton in the hotel room.

Kind of frustrate a bit because my iPad 2 can connect to the Ad-Hoc Wireless Hotspot and not the S3. I tried configure the Wi-Fi frequency band and the Ad-hoc hotspot just doesn't appear in the Wi-Fi networks list.

In the rush to enable the camera to take a shot of a friend with his host from the restaurant, I drop my S3 onto the floor. Luckiliy the Rock case protected the phone so there is no apparent damage to the phone (touch wood).

After that compare the photo shoot with my friend Galaxy Note in low light condition and my friend is convinced that S3 has better camera.

Overall quite happy with the performance of the S3 with it first oversea trip.

Also tried out the Bluetooth transfer between my S3, Note and Blackberry 9800 and quite satisifed with the transfer speed.
