To use an external USB device,
make sure the device is not connected
when starting up the vehicle
and connect the device after
starting up.
• If you start the vehicle when the
USB device is connected, it may
damage the USB device. (USB is
not ESA)
• If the vehicle is started up or
turned off while the external USB
device is connected, the external
USB device may not work.
• It may not play inauthentic MP3 or
WMA files.

• Take cautions for static electricity
when connecting or disconnecting

dude, how big is your AVI file? I have experience the HU cannot open file with big file size (MP4, downloaded from youtube) but not problem with small file size.

maybe you can give it a try like 100-200MB file and try the rest of the file type first before conclude that it is HU problem as it could be the HU was designed to operate in such way.
