Hey guys, wassup. Want to change from Celcom Portawifi to Maxis portawifi-like LTE usb modem.
My 1yr Celcom Portawifi contract will end next month in February, and for the past <1yr the service has been good (as usual the first few months at 9Mbps) to worse (2Mbps the next month all the way till now), no where nearing the 21Mpbs advertised speed. Surprisingly my Nokia Lumia 1020 with celcom can get up to 30Mbps (refer sig below), wth?
FYI, i'm staying in Seksyen 7, Shah Alam.. and the celcom coverage here is just ok. I understand that speeds at peak hours at not that satisfactory, but i can't deal with 'just ok' at rm68 monthly.
Any Maxis LTE users in Seksyen 7 Shah Alam? What's the coverage and speed like? Want to change since my portawifi cant get the LTE speed whereas my phone can, BARELY at 2 bars.

QUOTE(bahathir @ Jan 21 2014, 10:20 AM) One step closer to 100 Mbps True 4G LTE. [attachmentid=3824852] Yes, 75.04 Mbps download Location: Inside KTM Komuter while approching KTM KL station. Time: 19:23 Note: The link disconnected due to low signal strength. So, the it does not recorded to speedtest.net. But the next test, I got 66.95 Mbps download. Thank you. 75+ Mbps is awesome bro! Wanna speedtest there when I have the chance. Anyway, Subang Jaya SS15 still not as speedy as ur place.. ~30Mbps as per my sig.. but still fast enough to watch and dload etc

QUOTE(bahathir @ Feb 6 2014, 11:48 AM) Celcom Exec Plan. since 2008. Same, but can't remember since when The good thing abt this old Exec plans, celcom will never cut-off our calls nor data even when the max usage has been reached. For exceeded calls, it will be billed extra.. and for data, the speed will be capped/slowed down. All these new First plans however cut-off if not mistaken..

QUOTE(bahathir @ Feb 6 2014, 05:58 PM) Yes, agreed. I already reached the data quota (cap) several times, and, I still able use the 3G network, but at lower speed. If I am not mistaken, the plan consist of MYR38 of voice + MYR 90 of data plan amd I get 3 or 5GB (?) data/month. I don't know whether we can get voice plan and data plan sperately using same number/SIM for the exisiing plans. During Pre LTE days, I used my phone as 3G modem. and quite satisfied with Celcom's 3G network. I really hope they can expand the LTE network quickly and catching up Maxis's LTE coverage. Thank you. Using the same old number, however I changed the old exec pay-per-use data plan (which is extremely expensive) to the new rm38/month data plan (1gb if not mistaken). So monthly, i will roughly pay rm50/month exec voice plan + rm38/month 1gbdata plan = rm88~ monthly, never exceeds rm100, unless i topup the data volume..

QUOTE(vostro78 @ Feb 19 2014, 05:26 PM) not sure this can explain your senario or not....assuming you already get the pass to use lte, hp also is lte ready, just ur phone package not meet. like maxis also want their user to subscribe min 1gb data plan if they want lte. Same goes to wife's celcom prepaid. Using iphone5s, lte enabled, lte sms activated, but not getting lte speed due to package. must get the min required data package (rm38/month 1gb data), then only can utilize the lte speed.

QUOTE(bahathir @ Mar 24 2014, 03:26 PM) Celcom 4G LTE in Penang. Speedtest gave around 20Mbps, download. How is the real performance in 'real world' or practical use? Here is a screenshot during toreenting my favorite tv show. using GNU/Linux, connected MBP 15" to Sony Xperia Z1 (C6903) via USB tethering. Signal strength is 3 bars of 4 or better. At peak, th downlad rate was about 1859 kB/s or over 17 Mbps at steady rate. [attachmentid=3902794] Using Xperia Z1 as LTE modem is not bad at all. It stayed cool during the less than 10 minutes of torrenting. p/s: I really wish I can do this test at my favorite spot where I got 85Mbps. Thank you Please do a speedtest whenever ure free, would like to see results

Can someone tell me which is a good 4G LTE modem? And price range? I want to replace my Celcom's Portawifi USB modem since it doesn't support 4G LTE speed. (As claimed by Celcom CS HERE)

QUOTE(KaiHD @ Mar 27 2014, 03:08 PM) NETGEAR Aircard 760s/762s. It's a Mifi priced between RM200 to RM400. I've heard a lot of good things on that one. Netgear and Sierra same brand? Coz found sierra brand on lelong/lowyat, cant find netgear. Anyway, was thinking of something like portawifi.. Usb modem type. Any ideas/suggestions? QUOTE(bahathir @ Apr 2 2014, 11:48 AM) In Penang, typically, I got 20Mbps DL and 10Mbps UL. Most of the time my phone was on LTE mode. That's good. Wish I could say the same for Kedah's (hometown) celcom. Right in the middle of the Alor Setar town, in front of the Celcom building, still not getting LTE despite sim activated and phone in LTE mode. But i believe maxis is doing well there.

QUOTE(chuahcs79 @ May 20 2014, 01:40 PM) cat 6 product is totally overkill for any ISP in malaysia market now, when most of the cell tower backhaul bandwidth is not even up to par where they should be Exactly. U'll only get the speed (refer my sig) only when ure exactly at the origin. Outside, ure lucky if u got 50% of promised speed.
