I don't think the upcoming Y500 will be cheap.

Here I posted yesterday on another thread :

you can ask the seller to change your ram from 4 gb to 8 gb (well for my y480 only had 4gb), and if you like to have a pair of better ram like Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz (4gb x 2), you can also ask him to install this for you and ask him to trade-in your stock ram (usually samsung), he will gladly do it and offer a reasonable price for it. and of course, buy the extra 1 year warranty.

How does this Corsair Vengence ram performs compared to the stock ram?
Any significant improvement?

Not even any single description about the white color version can be found on Lenovo official website.
I wonder where the dealers get the info from.

Some update here, important notice!!!!

I got my y580 Win8 version, and i just found out it is a "Single Language Version"!!!
This version is just like a Win7 Home Basic, not the Win8 Pro version!!

The worse thing is, this so called Win8 Single Language Version is NOT ENTITLED to upgrade to Win8 Pro version at the promotion price of RM50!!

People who plan to get y580 currently should look for win7 HB version instead of win8 version if you want to get Win8 Pro at RM50!!

I think win7 HB version of y580 will slowly replaced by win8 SL in the market, so those who plan to get a y580, act fast!!

Both y580 and g55 fit in your budget.
My suggest would be get y580, use the rest money to upgrade the ram and get a ssd as well to boost the performance, and upgrade to 3 years warranty.
Then it should works like beast. rclxms.gif

haha...yap2...quite worth it actually..how bout the heat managemnt of y580 compared to g55...i hear people say the fan is quite noisy and the heat is much more greater than g55???
smile.gif
*
You can reduce the heats by replace the hdd with a ssd and using the cooler master notepal u3.
The hdd can either put in odd(with caddy bay) or as an external hdd.

And the fan is not noisy at all. biggrin.gif

Never use g55, so can't comment about it. smile.gif

Did you tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2607607
While the difference in the Win8 and Win8Pro version can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions
*
Thanks for your info.

Since i only using y580 as my personal gaming rig(working purpose i have another laptop), so Win8 not Win8 Pro is ok for me.

Just to info those who plan to get Win8 Pro at promotional price, you should get a win7hb version instead.
