If the OS is 64bit it should right? Planning to purchase this lappy for photo editing, as you know Photoshop really eats damn lots of RAM, therefore to play save i need 16GB RAM for Photoshop to run smoother as sometimes I need to edit some large 36 Megapixels RAW files, 4GB RAM confirmed not enough...

when i bought my y580 the seller explained that windows 7 64gb cap the ram to 8gb only. If you wish to upgrade to 16gb, u need to get windows 8 installed. i straight go for the y580 with 16gb and am not regretting it now. am using it for designing purpose also.

nope.. he is absolutely wrong. since windows xp 64bit, you can use up to max 128gb of RAM. it's just your mobo does not supported up to 128gb RAM. and for Y580, the mobo and current bios support up to 16gb of RAM.
