QUOTE(dirsly @ Aug 1 2012, 08:34 AM) Any local y480 will get 2 years warranty. Unless stated from shop. If u got only 1 year warranty, that means ur item is not from local. According to lenovo in fb, they are upgrading their website so the status is not updated yet. If written MY on the box then it means its a local unit right?Check warranty status on 1st page.. Ignore the laptop box information mate. QUOTE(benlaw @ Aug 1 2012, 10:41 AM) as long you have receipt ,ur warranty is valid even the page not update Oh okay, sounds slightly more assuring. |

QUOTE(chopin @ Aug 8 2012, 09:17 PM) hi all, would like to know from any owner of Y480: 1. From the internal layout, i would say lenovo have the edge in cooling1. Does your gear having any overheat problem? can you post temperature data showing temperatures at idle, and full load? especially interested to know if Asus N56 runs cooler than lenovo or not. 2. I read from here and cari.com that some owners of Lenovo modify their gear by taking out the dvd drive and place the hdd there with a caddy, and put an ssd in the original hdd slot. reportedly this lowers temp by 10c. - would this violate the warranty? 3. can we do step 2, by just moving the hdd to the optical drive bay but not putting any ssd (leave the hdd slot empty)? { actually i have asked this in another thread, but place here too hope to get more answers... http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...entry53686897 seems to have a bit too many Y480 threads... } 2. No it wont void warranty if you change the hdd or ram. 3. Not sure, but technically shouldnt be a problem. |

QUOTE(chopin @ Aug 9 2012, 07:42 AM) youtube video i dont know, but saw this if you can read chinese (but with lots of pics): Oh thanks, maybe i have to use google translator haha.http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2232884-1-1.html Added on August 9, 2012, 7:45 am from design maybe, but in actual world, lots of ppl complain abt this, iincluding the China users where Lenovo is based. that's why many owner modify them by moving their hdd to the dvd drive bay. so far haven't heard similar cases on the asus n56. would like to hear more from owners... The design is only flawed for the hdd but if talking about gpu and processor, its good enough i think. Unless you crave dual fan cooling |

Anybody notice that the graphic switching is abit weird. If the system goes to HD4000 then even when i start a game, it wont switch back to nvidia GC. I will need to restart the computer then its ok again.
But i notice most of the time intel graphic wont be used even though i only surf the web or use microsoft word. Is there a better driver that allows more fluent switching between graphic card? |

QUOTE(sss2sssss @ Aug 14 2012, 12:48 AM) I using the modified 305.53 driver which is dev version, so far I see it does improve the performance..... using 304.79 now. Dont really see the effects of optimus, as i have the GC widget i still see the Nvidia card running instead of HD4000 QUOTE(cslance @ Aug 14 2012, 01:20 AM) that you can set the setting in nvdia very easily. just right click and enter nvdia setting set the default graphic card for your particular game is nvdia instead of intel The thing is the dedicated graphic card is already running no matter what i do, even when in idle. From what i read there is no direct way of manually switching the GC's |

Hmm it seems everybody gets only 1 year in the website. Dont know if their website is still upgrading or what.
I guess the only way to verify if its a local unit is with the tag at the box? Which is this - Country:MY |

QUOTE(sss2sssss @ Aug 15 2012, 09:32 PM) Ya, I think our stock is from China but ship to Malaysia to sell... Yeah origin should be china since its made in china My BOX there origin is CN, but country is MY.... QUOTE(ck.chunkeat @ Aug 15 2012, 10:00 PM) hmm...should i sell the 1600 4gb ram stick and get 2x 4gb 1333 ram stick? Haha, come and trade with my 4gb 1333. Since price difference between a 1600 and 1333 is about 20,which makes it a total saving of around rm40. This post has been edited by Proclaimer: Aug 15 2012, 10:04 PM |

QUOTE(davidmak @ Aug 16 2012, 04:12 PM) I got mine (Y580 FHD) from Mid Valley few days ago. Totally rocks and gaming out of the box is fuss free. Not sure why but the 1TB 5400RPM is a little sluggish compared to my work laptop (also spinner HDD). It takes awhile before I could even start a browser. Yeah how much does the shop in midvalley selling? midvalley IT stuff not cheap Am now considering of getting a mSATA ~60GB or more for use as a Windows boot drive. Don't think the new Y580 supports Intel SRT (only HM76 chipset). Any recommendation or advise (for or against)? On a side note. Anybody wants to buy my Y480? 1 month plus of age but rarely used because i got 2 desktops. No HDD though. Can contact me through PM |

QUOTE(sss2sssss @ Aug 16 2012, 08:41 PM) I plan to buy one SSD, one hybrid drive, and HDD candy bay for it la... Caddy bay is a good move, SSD is a must! Once you've tried SSD, you will want to store everything in it SSD just need to boot OS(so 64GB/60GB) should be enough, and hybrid driver(think of buy 500GB) is to store program and personal data... That default 500GB HDD take out and become external HDD..lol Added on August 16, 2012, 8:41 pmPS: next year Next year? By then 60GB SSD will be RM100 haha |

One thing i notice about the beta nvidia driver that i really like is that the battery life is amazing! I can get 4 hours with normal web surfing compared to the shitty stock driver which i can only achieve 2 hours max.
