I suggest you go to your dealer first and tell them that you bought it and it is faulty within 7 days and you request/ demand for a 1 to 1 replacement unit. Unless he said he out of stock la, if not I believe it is a resonable request.

If you go to Service Centre, then they will try to repair for you. Then you will have to wait at least a few days. And if worst no spare parts or something stuck with custom with the shipping then you have to wait for more than a week d...

I think removing the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS setting would be a viable solution.

Please do try it and share the result to us.

The last resort is to format and clean install the entire OS.

If your notebook is brand new and some of the functions that are suppose to work and it is not working, I would suggest you to return it to the seller for replacement or warranty as it may be a manufacturing defect unit.

I did some research previously when I consider both Y580 or G55.

When the time I was doing my research, I found there are something that the G55 does not offer while Y580 offer such features. For example, G55 does not provide Nvidia Optimus technology. And I heard that there are many owners of G55 complaint about there is a heat issue.

You may check for the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 Review Compare To Asus G55 that I have written on soon after I bought the Y580.

Since you have 4k as your budget, with the lowest spec of Y580, you have additional 1k to upgrade it to be a better potential beast than G55.

In regards of after service, sounds like both also have a bit problem here and there.

So I am betting on which known problem is easier to solved and provide more flexibility.

But I heard the complaints with G55 about the heat was not properly solved and seems like Asus SEA are not doing a proper job in responding towards the complaint. In EU or US, consumer that have reported with the problem get to 1 to 1 exchange according to some tech forumers.

I choose Y580 becos have more rooms to customize as both Y580 and G55 are having identical specs. But G55 having a stricter rules where you can't open the machine to do any upgrade bcos of the sticker. But upgrading ram, adding another optional hard disk or MSATA are all easily and available to upgrade on Y580.

Then top up some money you can get 3 years on-site warranty with Lenovo d. My passed experience with HP on-site warranty are really nice. So I am expecting at least the same level of service.

But for gaming machine, Asus Gaming and Alienware those are more famous lor. I have a tight budget always, so I believe Y580 is the best value for money gear than the G55 lo.

Maybe you need a trick that I used in helping me to make my decision. I used a spreadsheet to do the calculation and finally calculated which one is the more worth going laptop.

Try checking around the forums, I think devour should be a great vendor.
I remembered that there is another vendor's thread that I read that he is offering something like RM 2,999 with 8Gb ram as their own special package.

Maybe you want to dig deep into the forum to get which vendor best suite you.

Haha, that is most likely to happen when you are asking a standard sales person in a shop. Cos they didn't dig deep into the information of every particular notebook unless they are interested and go gather deep information.

As far as I know, the MSATA can be act as a cache purpose or for the purpose to installed OS into it.

Maybe you want to do some further testing to try pinpoint where and how does the problem will happen.
Then try to describe the situation to your vendor and request for a replacement unit. :S

If you manage to found how the problem happen then it would be better to demonstrate it to your vendor and request for a replacement. Maybe you can also try google for any similar problem and see what others said about it and if it was a common problem, maybe you can also bring the information that you have found online and show it to your vendor.

Hi bro, according to my research on Y580 last time and the information that I gotten from other sites, it can support 16GB Ram.

But maybe it is further limited by the OS which you need to check which OS can support up to 16GB ram.

Good thing that yours is only a minor problem with the brush connector not like mine which after the vendor have sent my notebook to the distributor to have a look, then the distributor straight said it is faulty and will replace a new unit to me after stock arrive.

My fren who installed windows 8 on his notebook also experience the samething and he suspected it was due to the OS is not stable and have bug that caused his notebook hard disk to constantly reading and writing.

Maybe you want to check if your HDD LED is constantly blinking or just lighted on.
