Thursday’s LFC Transfer Rumours: Sigurdsson latest and £16m Johnson swoop
By This Is Anfield On June 7, 2012 · 81 Comments · In LFC News 48 Liverpool could be set to swoop for Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson after negotiations over his proposed £6.8million move to Swansea City broke down. New Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was set to sign Sigurdsson after an impressive loan spell at the Liberty Stadium, but the deal is set to have been put on hold following Rodgers’ move to Liverpool. Now Rodgers is keen to steal the highly-rated 22-year-old from under the noses of his former club, and Sigurðsson himself has now opened the door to a move to Anfield. “It’s just unclear at this moment where I will play,” he told mbl.is in his homeland. “I expect not to stay at Swansea because of the uncertainty going on there as it is not clear who is boss. “I have said that my desire to continue playing in the Premier League and Liverpool is completely considered. “Liverpool is a big club that has a glorious history. “English Premier League is the platform that I want to be and hopefully is that I continue to play in that division.” He added, “I got in touch with Brendan when he was appointed Liverpool manager. “I wish him congratulations and thanked him for a great time at Swansea.” Meanwhile, the Reds have been linked once again with Manchester City winger Adam Johnson and a £16million bid could be on the cards, according to Caught Offside. Johnson has struggled to claim a Man City first team place as their squad has been built with the cream of European footballing talent. But Rodgers may see him as a great replacement for Dirk Kuyt, who left for Turkish club Fenerbahce earlier this week after six years at the club. |

Liverpool midfielder Stewart Downing has admitted he felt embarrassed after he ended his debut season at Anfield without scoring.
Downing's disappointment was compounded further, as the 27-year-old was also unable to manage an assist in a year that the £20million man would rather forget. Signed by Kenny Dalglish last summer, Downing was expected to provide strike duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez with the ammunition to fire Liverpool into the higher echelons of the Premier League. But such success was nothing more than a pipe dream, and Downing has now turned his attention towards rediscovering his best form at the European Championships with England. The former Aston Villa winger was the only outfield player to feature in all nine England games in 2011, playing in two out of three matches this year for the Three Lions. And, despite his poor form, Downing is in contention to start the Group D opener against France on Monday. Speaking to Sky Sports, Downing said: "The fact is I didn't get enough goals. "I hit the post and the bar many times and missed a few chances so I was disappointed, especially when I scored goals for Aston Villa the year before. "Sometimes you are on a run and get goals; sometimes you don't. I try to score and maybe next season I will get 10 or 15. Football is like that. But I am disappointed I did not score enough." Whilst Downing admits to being embarrassed about his lack of goals and assists for Liverpool this season, he insists that too much should not be read into statistics, as they can prove to be misleading. "Statistics have taken over the game: he doesn't score this, he hasn't set up that. You can read into it as you like," he said. "I've constantly set up chances, season in and season out. "I can't be criticised for not creating. I've just been unlucky that we've not finished the chances." Liverpool's season was equally disappointing, as Dalglish's side stumbled to an eighth-place finish with their home form particularly concerning. Yet, following the late introductions of Jordan Henderson and Martin Kelly, the Reds supply six members of Roy Hodgson's England squad - almost a third of the outfield men. But Downing is quick to defend his under-fire teammates. He added: "I don't think those six players did that bad - just that, as a whole group, we were not clinical enough. It's all about personal opinions. "If there were eight Manchester United players in the team and they didn't win the league, would people be asking why they are here? "As players we have to be mentally strong and concentrate on the good bits of our games because the manager has seen something that shows why we've been picked." |

Liverpool must pay almost £9m if they want to sign Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho.
The former Porto star has long been linked with a move to Anfield, and after Jose Enrique's mixed first season at the club there are rumours that Liverpool could make another bid for the left-back. And Lyon are willing to sell, but not for much less than the £12.18m than they spent to buy the player from Porto in 2009. And in a statement Lyon claimed that they will not accept any bid lower than £9m - and with Napoli also keen Liverpool have a decision to make if they are to bring Cissokho to the club. talkSPORT understands that Newcastle and Everton are also interested in the France international, with the Toffees set to make a move should Leighton Baines leave Goodison Park for Manchester United this summer. again? lol |

QUOTE(Rotuham @ Aug 11 2012, 04:49 PM) Can anyone explain why is the club buying more british players?I thought we had more than enough already. i dun think allen signing is coz of british.. it's mainly due to old club fever.. BR keep taking player tat already worked under him... same like old harryDisappointed that the better of the british players are leaving or in the process while the crap ones remain. On the bright side,i suppose borini is starting to prove his talent. |
