After watching Gylfi Sigurdsson, i am reminded of Steviie

Except for tackling, he .....shoots from distance....foraging runs to box......scores from freekicks
They look the same build as well

I don't know about reaping rewards. They made a nett loss despite winning the Premiership because they pay players more than they earn. This will come to bite them in the ass during the 2013-2014 season as according to a Deloitte representitive, teams who don't abide by Financial Fairplay during that season will be banned from UEFA sanctioned tournaments.

What exactly does the financial fairplay say?

In short, clubs cannot spend more than they earn. Clubs like City and Chelsea pay exuberant wages and have suffered net losses despite winning silverware.

Here are a couple of articles, one of which I posted earlier.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18248540

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/ma...ue-survey-wages

Note that like Man Utd, we've reduced our wage bill tremendously. This explains why we didn't sign mega stars last year and why we won't this year. There is constantly talk over signing Downing over Mata. While I do admit that Downing has had a poor season, the reason behind signing him instead of Mata could be down to wages. Downing commands around $80,000 from what I know and I imagine Mata gets a fair bit more than that.

Thanks mate.

Hopefully the rule comes on sooner than later.
The shieks, Ruskie oil mafias are killing the beautiful game with corruption.
But then again, UEFA maybe pressured by these goons.

This Ingerlund team is one of the worst in memory.
It also boasts of the worst strikeforce in the last 30 years or so.

Apart from Rooney, the rest are just to make up the numbers.
They ARE really gash......

Liverpool have opened talks with Hoffenheim over a move for Gylfi Sigurdsson and a deal could be completed as early as next week.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the midfielder to Anfield after the pair combined well during Sigurdsson's loan spell at Swansea last season.

The 22-year-old has privately expressed his desire to join Rodgers at Anfield, rather than join Swansea permanently.

Liverpool will pay in excess of the £6.8m fee Swansea agreed last month.

Sigurdsson had been on the brink of agreeing a permanent move to the south Wales club when Rodgers left for Anfield last month.

But despite having agreed terms with Swansea, Rodgers's departure prompted an immediate change of heart from Sigurdsson with the influence of his manager a key reason for his original decision.

The new Liverpool manager has made no secret of his desire to link-up with his former player, whom he also worked with in his brief spell at Reading in 2009.

"If he comes into the market for whatever reason - and I'm sure there'll be a number of clubs interested in Gylfi - then of course I would like to be in a position to put our case here at Liverpool to sign him," Rodgers said earlier this week.

"But I've always said I think he's a player Swansea have had an agreement with and they have to have every chance to try to sign him. That's only right. If anything changes from that, we'll look at it from there."

The personal wishes of Sigurdsson have, however, brought an end to Swansea's hopes of signing the player, leaving the way clear for Liverpool to make their first signing under Rodgers.

More are likely to follow. "I think there are a few players who can come in and improve the group straight away," Rodgers added. "I know the types of player I need to bring here to make us function well and that's something myself, the club and the board will look at.

"I know what we've got, more or less, in the squad, but I also know there are a couple of signings that could really improve what we do."

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger says he would be open to the offer of a new contract at Anfield and is looking forward to meeting new manager Brendan Rodgers.

Denmark international Agger, whose Euro 2012 exploits ended on Sunday after his country were eliminated, is contracted on Merseyside until 2014 but would welcome the chance to extend his deal.

The 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2006 from native club Brondby, is keen to meet Rodgers after being impressed with his results at Swansea.

"It's no secret that I'm happy to be in Liverpool. Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years," he told sporten.dk.

"I have not [discussed a new contract] but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them.

"It's not something that is urgent, for I have contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen.

"I am looking forward to meeting the new coach. I've seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive."

Alberto Aquilani will be happy to see out his contract with Liverpool should new boss Brendan Rodgers decide that the midfielder is part of his long-term plans at the club.

The Italy international still has two-years remaining on his contract with the Reds and is now waiting to hear if Rodgers sees him as playing a major role in the side.

Aquilani was sent out on-loan by both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish, but his agent has made it clear that he may still have a future at Liverpool.

"The new Liverpool coach will decide Alberto's fate," the midfielder's agent Franco Zavaglia told Italian radio station Radio Mana Mana, as reported on Sky Sports. "We will have to wait and see what he thinks about the player and whether Alberto will be of any use to the Reds.

"Alberto has a contract at Liverpool for another two years and they will let us know about their intentions soon. He would be happy to stay at Liverpool if he was given the right opportunities."

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons playing in Italy, first for Juventus and then AC Milan, but neither club decided to take up the option to sign him on a permanent deal.

Liverpool did struggle last season in the league and Aquilani does have proven quality, playing a number of games in the Champions League last season for Milan.

I thought LFC was always doing their business behind closed doors. Thats why I didn't care much what I read on the interweb because 90% of them are crap. Staying quite doesnt mean the club didn't look for a player. They may have line up a couple of players to be bought already we never knew until its official.

Regarding Sigurdson, if BR think he didn't deserve the salary he is asking then nobody can argue because BR knows him well and he is the one responsible for making Sigurdson unlock his true potential. Its the player loss.. not ours.

Maybe BR still has small club mentality! biggrin.gif

LIVERPOOL are set to complete the signing of striker Fabio Borini after agreeing an £11million deal with Roma.

The Reds have been given the green light to discuss personal terms with the 21-year-old Italy international who will then undergo a medical.

The transfer should be completed in the next 48 hours and Borini will become manager Brendan Rodgers' first signing.

An agreement between the clubs was reached following lengthy negotiations after Borini made it clear he wanted to be reunited with the Northern Irishman.

Rodgers knows exactly what he's getting having worked with the highly-rated youngster at Chelsea and then signed him on loan at Swansea City towards the end of the 2010/11 season.

Borini joined Parma after his Chelsea contract expired last summer but was swiftly loaned out to Roma.

He made a big impression at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 10 goals in 26 games in all competitions, and earned a place in the Italy squad at Euro 2012.

Roma bought half of his rights back in January when they entered into a co-ownership agreement with Parma and then last month they bought the other 50%, taking their overall spending on him to around £7million.

Rodgers made boosting his firepower the priority having seen Dirk Kuyt move to Fenerbahce and Luis Suarez called up by Uruguay for the Olympics.

With Craig Bellamy and Andy Carroll facing uncertain futures, Borini is unlikely to be the only striker signed by the Reds during the transfer window.

On another note, I'm highly skeptical abt Borini. For me there's 2 ways to look at it, if he's so good, why ski dont offer him new contract. If he rejected, then it brings another question, does he want to go back to Italy? then whats the point in bringing him back to England as we may get another Aquilani case. IMO Italians seldom thrives outside their on league.
*
There are other ways of looking at this

Ski has so many BIG names strikers, they have no confidence is some young hotshot.
They had Drog, Anelka,Kalou, Sturridge, Lukaku, now Hazard..looking at Schurrle
They are always out for BIG names.....Romans' ego demands that.
So for young strikers gonna be difficult.

Hes 21 now, no longer 17. Hes been in UK with BR, TWICE.
BR will know him well. BR will already have spoken to him about this.
So hes no Aqua case.

no, basically the club refused any approaches for Andy Caroll, unless somebody is willing to pay the 30M price tag. I don't think we'll get rid of Andy Caroll for any price lesser in these 1-3 years more. (baseically until almost his contract runs out, in about 1-3 years time)

Guardian says 2omil

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/ju...carroll-striker

Liverpool will seek to recoup at least £20m from the sale of Andy Carroll this summer, a valuation that will sorely test Newcastle United's aspirations to re-sign the England striker before the new Premier League campaign.

While an initial bid to take the 23-year-old on a season-long loan, with Liverpool asked to make up a significant proportion of the forward's £80,000-a-week wages, was flatly rejected on Sunday, Newcastle were left sufficiently encouraged to believe they could yet successfully prise the forward away from Anfield only 18 months after selling him for an eye-catching £35m.

However, while a second bid to take the player back permanently for around £13m had been mooted by the Newcastle hierarchy and could still be submitted, it has now emerged that Liverpool will sanction the England international's departure only for a far higher figure. The Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, secured Fabio Borini from Roma last week and is still hoping to tweak his squad before the new season, retaining interest in Fulham's Clint Dempsey and the Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen, and any money from Carroll's sale would bolster the funds at his disposal.

Carroll was not part of the Liverpool squad that departed for the United States on Monday but is due to join his team-mates in Boston next week for the second leg of the club's pre-season tour, having been granted extra time off after Euro 2012. The player had hoped to convince Rodgers that he should have a role to play at Anfield under the new regime, having mustered 11 goals in 56 games for the club to date, but Liverpool's apparent willingness to court interest would suggest his days at the club are numbered.

That has dismayed the striker – a scorer for England against Sweden at Euro 2012 – whose instinct was to remain at the club. He would prefer a move back to Tyneside if he is to leave Anfield, despite rival Premier League clubs having also expressed an interest in securing his services. Fulham are aware of Rodgers's interest in Dempsey – who has entered the final year of his contract at Craven Cottage but has not, as yet, been the subject of any formal bid – prompting suggestions a player exchange might be thrashed out, while the new Aston Villa manager, Paul Lambert, has also confirmed his desire to secure Carroll.

West Ham United, too, have gone public with their interest and would be prepared to meet the player's wage package, yet they would not be in a position to muster such a significant transfer fee this summer. The manager, Sam Allardyce, told the London Evening Standard: "We would dearly love to have Andy Carroll with us but it is a complex situation and he is in no hurry. He doesn't have to make a quick decision if he doesn't want to. If Andy is going to leave Liverpool, he can wait and see how many are interested."

BR need to prove himself more and should be able to work the players given to him. Not changing the whole system of club now. Kuyt and Maxi are gone now and offload carroll ?

Did anyone remember how poor swansea away result ? Play fantastic football at home but terribly in away games. This is BR weakness. Just because BR play fantastic tiki taka football doesnt mean that is the best football system.

See how far Barcelona make it into champion league last season only be beaten by physical players from chelsea team. And who the hell come out and score against chelsea during fa cup final ? It is Andy Carroll. It is good to watch those kind of football but going away from home , we need to win as much set piece as we can. I remember rafa said bout how good Crouchy as an option when it come to away games. Tbh , I am sick sometimes just to watch how spain play in euro , if only Italy play defensively they will won the euro12.

i agree.........Tiki Taka does not work all the time.

We need to have a different approach to games sometimes.

Plus AC has been improving the last few months.
