I got my car in end of Dec 2012. Batch Nov 2012. Here is what I found about the jerking/engine about to die when you put into reverse gear...

SA told me to wait untill air bag light turn off before I start the engine. One day I was rushing, so put in the key, & start it straight away before the air bag light turn off. Put in reverse... & it the engine start semput2.
So I turned the engine off, take the key out, put back in... & wait for air bag light to turn off. After that put in reverse gear, it's back to normal.

I guess the engine software or engine management system need sometime to load before you can start the engine... just my 2 kupang
