My EB 1.6 CVT Premium is two months old.

As I was settling down from all the earlier minor hiccups of EB, I received a letter from EON last week, asking me to go and check " variable valve timing " ( VVT ) at the nearest SC doh.gif . I am not sure how serious is this problem. Has anyone else here received this letter?. Can the Sifus give some info on this VVT?

For those long waiting new EB owners, I had to wait patiently for more than two months. I found the system works like some Govt offices. My SA pushes to his local manager, the manager could not do much. Call I care , standard replies. Latter I came to know there are red tapes inside as well. After I loose my patience, the car arrived within 1 week. hmm.gif

I hope I can keep my EBP for atleast next 5 years without any major problems. rclxub.gif

Hi guys

Been driving for 1 week (odo around 250km). this is my status report

1) fc about 6.3 km/l, full city drive. I understand first 100k fc is normally lousy but just want to confirm if mine normal?

2) when I go through some small pot hole, only the back tyre, some time can hear like clanking sound for a short while. I remember someone reported similar case. Any idea what it is?

3) understand that the fan will keep running after stop engine to cool down the turbo. But sometime when I drive for 15 min them shut off engine the fan didn't kick start. I thought 15 min drive should be quite got already.normal?

4) heard some minor sound on the dashboard board area only today but at the moment not serious.anyone had this experience?

5) just now my engine suddenly die off from idle and going into very slow movement. Anyone got this experience?

Other than that, my eb is great (so far)

My eb also got hiccup problem when idle or not moving. If what longy said about variable valve timing is true then sucks lah. I thought they tested the engine and car for 250,000 km already, cannot believe proton.

About the fan spinning thing, if I drive without turning on the aircon, it will spin for 5 minutes after I shut off the engine, everytime.
If I drive with aircon on, the probability the fan will spin after turn off engine is like 1/30. So rare, and if it spin, it's like for 2-3 minutes only.

Reading up the experiences by the actual owners of the EB CFE is so enriching. This is why I'm going to wait for many, many more months until the reliability problems especially with the engine is ironed out before I plonk money to buy one.

As rightfully mentioned above, proton said tested the engine for how many thousand kilometers pun, the actual owners still face engine problems. Go figure.

Totally agree with you. Cuz when aircond on the fan always on thats why the engin is cool enough when switch off so u dont get that annoying embarasing fan sound occasionly. Sometimes when i hear the fan go on after i turn off the engin i restart the engin again wait for few seconds so the water sensor can sence the water flow and the fan will go off. Its quite troublsome but better than having to hear the lion roar cool.gif
Of course this fan issue also got to know it for few days before they took my exora to SC since two months ago for alignment problem shakehead.gif

I also notice engine hiccup occasionally during idling but not that severe. So far My EB is serving me good putting aside the expected CVT noise < 40km and fan turning ON when engine off ... mileage is 3.5k km.

Coming from manufacturing industry, I can understand this tested vs actual production engine

those tested engine most of the time, is specially made and monitored carefully by engineers involve in the project. So you will get very high quality ones for engine used in this kind of run

But mass production engine different. Quality check normally by technician or operator or machine. Engineers seldom involved unless got big quality issue detected

so even when during design stage all look ok but production screw up, will still have issue

My EB have never once got it's fan running after engine switched off. Never during town driving. Not even after driving for 30 mins at 90kph. No engine funny sound either. Nothing. Should I be worried? LOL

the fan needs to keep running to cool down the turbo engine as it is naturally hotter (that's what the SA told me)

if the engine is not cooled down properly, the engine might not last long

maybe you have a "cool" engine rclxms.gif

You are lucky! biggrin.gif
I went to ipoh, constantly 160km/h and when I stop at petrol station and switch off the engine, the fan didnt keep spin
So i think distance and speed doesnt affect the fan

I just wish the fan will not spin when someone i know are around, it just hard to explain to them it is not faulty. They also like, why new car behave like this? / proton engine fail is it? Maybe because it is a proton, if its a toyota, maybe they will be like " wow..so efficient to cool down the engine drool.gif "

as reported earlier, i got 6.3km/l full city drive. is this normal before 1st service? kind of high. the way i check if pump full petrol, reset odo, drive until the petrol meter drop a few level, then pump full again, check how many km i travelled, calculate manually

Why not tell them a tall story? Tell them this car very intelligent. It's boiling water and coffee ready when you gets back to car later drool.gif

That is normal...the fc will drop after your 5k mileage smile.gif Last time my fc also like you full city drive, now 6K already become 9.5KM/L. I also when travel I drive fast average 160km/h, maybe fast break in reduce the fc

1) wind noise
2) steering vibration
3) driver seat rocking (i think this is quite common)
4) brake/hand brake seems stuck a bit after parking (not sure which one)

5) some occasional non repeated weird noise..maybe ears too sensitive

anyway..i read before somebody complained about the reverse camera cannot see in the dark..but i think it is quite ok lah..still able to guide my car to the correct space.

My complaint list

- Tapping signal too short (5X)
- Rocking seat (can feel it during breaking)
- CVT noise @ < 40km/h ( But not very obvious and acceptable to me)
- Occasional small Engine hiccup during idling and when A/C kick in.
- Noises ??? -- I think this is quite subjective. I can hear some wind noise and small rattling but acceptable to me .... even a slightly more expensive cars are not free from some noises. Of course I do not compare with luxury cars that build for perfection.

Added on July 2, 2012, 4:34 pmI just purchased the Philip X-treme Vision to replace the current stock bulb.

Unfortunately I was unable to remove the stock bulb, I have been removing bulbs many time with other car brands, including older proton and it just a snap. However the exora bulb seem to stick/glued to the power socket and I can't remove it. Not sure if I was doing it wrongly or something wrong with the bulb assembly.

Anyone here has remove the bulb?.

Yesterday, when I was driving in Ipoh town, my EB engine suddenly stalled!! Finally, after hearing someone from this
forum having this problem, I experience it myself.. Restart engine, it runs like normal again, while the choking is still
there when cooling fan switching on & off between intervals.
To be honest, I'm kinda disappointed with proton, this is my first proton & will i be thinking of giving proton another
chance?? My answer is.. "no way"
Juz think abt it, proton is already coming to 30 years old.. There are certain level of acceptance when we buy P, but
for this case, I don't think it is acceptable. Moreover, this is my 4th car, very seldom use, got my car during CNY, milage is 5k, OCV valve already changed once.. I noticed that my EB start to choke when the engine runs hot, normally
during noon..
So, Dinknight dude, be prepared if u still want to go ahead..
