The club consists of a group of individuals who holds special appreciation and praise towards the colossal world of Greek antiquities, primarily legends and myths, and the writings of famous poets and authors. The club admits any individual, under consideration, who have keen interest in Greek mythology and/or literature regardless of that individual's insight regarding the two mentioned subjects.

Members may post writings in any form of poetry, whether authorship belongs to the member or somebody else is not a matter of concern, but it is highly advised that members mention the name of the writer if it was written by another person. It is also recommended that other members take part in the interpretation of a poem posted by a member.

Members may discuss any matter concerning Greek mythology and literature, and should always seek reference to support their assertions, as to avoid any wrong information.
(Greek mythology and literature, not Greek mythology and Greek literature!)

Arion (アリオン?) was a manga series written and illustrated by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, published in Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Ryū from March 1979 to September 1984. The story follows Arion, a young man kidnapped by Hades as a child and raised to believe that his mother was blinded by Zeus and that killing the ruler of Mount Olympus will cure her.

I've never found enjoyment in watching anime... and films that involve Greek myth but tend to stray away from the original source... Sorry cry.gif cry.gif

I can honestly say discovering anime even at my relatively older age is like breathing fresh new air into my perception of entertainment. Especially with today's emphasis on "reality tv" and before that, "shock tv".

There was one relatively "accurate" anime adaptation of Greek myths, one of the earliest animes I've seen.

Hoshi no Orpheus
The more recent "Heroic Age" is a retelling with a sci-fi fantasy setting of Hercules.

*
Both sound very interesting, especially when I've only properly read about Heracles' Twelve Labours recently...

I'm fairly into the myth. And I read the whole Percy Jackson book series, which puts a refreshing modern twist to the series. And I was an avid follower of Hercules tv series and Xena the Warrior Princess.

I must say my favourite Greek god is Apollo and Artemis. smile.gif
*
I've never read any Percy Jackson book, but I have seen the first adaptation of Percy Jackson in film, and found a certain dislike for the way the gods are presented...
Artemis is one of my favourite too...

Imagine what will happen if it was the Titans who won instead of Zeus & co. and how can Zeus's father lose to Zeus? and if Zeus's father is one of the Titans, does it mean that the other Titans were Zeus & Co. uncle and aunt?
*
I'd think the reason for the loss of the Titans against the gods was due to the aid of the Cyclopes on the side of the gods... (Zeus received a thunderbolt, a helmet of invisibility to Hades, a trident for Poseidon)

Errr I'd answer yes to the question...

i like how in the movie they undermined Cronos and Cyclops. Everytime I watch a greek movie and they show both of them, I'll shout NERF'ED! and Hercules is buffed like crap. I like Hermes. carefree and the only one without much war.
*
lol... Hercules does look overpowered...
I love Hermessssssss, just very sneaky.. There was this story about Hermes, not sure if it is a story mentioned in reliable sources or not..

There was a poor lumberer resting near a river. When he wanted to wash his axe (or something else, I forgot), he dropped his axe into the river, and couldn't get it back. As Hermes was watching, he went to the lumberer, and presented a golden axe to him. Hermes asked if the golden axe was the axe that he lost, but the lumberer answered no. Then Hermes presented another axe, a silver one, and asked if it was the lumberer's axe. To this, the lumberer answered no again. Then Hermes showed the lumberer his real axe, and the lumberer said that this was the axe that he lost. For the lumberer's honesty, Hermes gave the lumberer his axe back, and also the golden axe.

He turns his sorrow into the art of forging, as do composers and poets turn their feelings into forms or art... So maybe that was why Hephaistos was good in forging? sweat.gif

No la. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. Hades falls for her and kidnap her. After much negotiations and arrangements, they decide Hades could only marry Persephone if he let her to go out from underworld every 6 months alternately. So this creates Summer and Spring (when Persephone lepak with her mum) and Autumn/Winter when she goes back to Hades. thumbup.gif
*
That's accurate but for one little part..
Hades let Persephone go unconditionally, but set a trap for her: he gave Persephone a seed(?) to eat before her leave, and Persephone ignorant of the effects of the seed, ate it and went back to her mother. Her mother told her that after having ate the seed, Persephone would have to return to the underworld for a period of time every year... It's interesting , isn't it.....

Never heard of a Nemean cestus before... only the skin of the Nemean lion used by Heracles for its invulnerability...

I used to create all the olympians in The Sims 3, assign them the relevant traits (example: Apollo was given the Vain, Artistic, Atheletic, Flirt and Brave) etc, then install a mod that generate FB-like status updates as I play the game. Result is damn funny mang!

what goes around comes around i guess...
Cronus overthrew Uranus with the help of Gaia..
Then Zeus overthrew Cronus and imprisoned the titans into the pit of Tartarus.

Funny thing is Cronus was the youngest of Titans same as Zeus which is the youngest of the Olympians ... Both overthrew their father ... LOL

The irony ..

But I'm more interested with Titans such as Hyperion, Atlas, Prometheus, Oceanus, Tethys, Rhea and etc ...

By the way Rhea is zeus's mother...hades and poseidon too
*
There aren't many writings about the Titans... So we only hear what we have already read before cry.gif

well to me...the titans are kinder to man rather than the Olympians ...
If you look at Zeus's bio...the thing that he does best is fapping greek womeenz and producing bastards ..
cant imagine how can Hera take it all ...

Well Prometheus was a kind Titan who tricked the Olympians for bigger sacrifice and stole it to for the consumption of man.
After that he stole the fire of Olympian and introduce them to man.

Atlas, He was also the god who instructed mankind in the art of astronomy, a tool which was used by sailors in navigation and farmers in measuring the seasons..

Gaia was the Earth ...give food and abundance to man.

The only thing thats synonymous with Olympians are fappin' orgy incest
*
The Titans gave man the most basic needs to start a life... but to have a better living, man ask help from the gods... hmm.gif
