Hello! I'm currently an A-Levels student and I'm looking forward to studying Medicine in the UK or Singapore. =P

Is there anyone here who is studying in NUS Medicine from A-levels? Because it seems that my actual results will only be out after the application deadline. The website says that SAT is needed for ppl like me but this pathway in inapplicable for Medicine. So I guess that the only way for me to apply for NUS is to wait for another year?

I'm currently narrowing down my university options as I will need to send in my UCAS soon. Anyone here would like to suggest their UK university and share their experiences?

I assume you would have already sat for the UKCAT, and your PS is more or less written up. If you have not already visited TSR, it will be good to do so;

Lots of information here, and there are univeristy-specific discussions as well. Which universities are you considering at the moment?  Good Luck!

Yup, I've been there. Would like to get the opinions of Malaysian students too because most ppl from TSR are UK locals if not mistaken. Yea, I've written my PS but still some tuning to do. Sadly, I didn't do so well for my UKCAT. I'm actually considering places like Belfast, Manchester, Southampton. But I haven't really narrowed down my choices yet. Thanks laugh.gif

Belfast do offer places at the education fairs and some agents can get direct entry but not a preferred one.
*
What do you mean by direct entry but not a preferred one?

I have narrowed down my final 7.
- Aberdeen
- Dundee
- Cardiff
- Leicester
- Queen's Belfast
- Southampton
- Nottingham

Anyone would like to share their experience / understand which might help me to finalise my final 4? Haha. =)

If I am not wrong, some require 2A**.
Is it documented that the selection is based on the above criteria and not forecast results? If your forecast is AAB, I don't think you stand a chance. Furthermore, why need a forecast if its merely to get an interview. As for Ukcat many unis only need just a slightly above average score.
Locally, I am sure academic counts first though you might argue $$$ comes first. A lot of ppl could be angry at you when they found out that not necessary that $$$ can get them a place at a preferred uni!
*
Hmm, I've recently been through the admissions cycle and most of the basic requirements are only AAA, and conditional offers my friends and I got were only AAA, one even being AABa. As for the forecast results, from what I experienced I also think it's just to see if we're academically strong enough, rest of the selection are based on our interview performance, personal statement, teacher's reference and UKCAT. So they basically give scores for each section and decide from there.

Wonder how this works...probably don't even have to go through UCAS.

I remember doing an interview survey by a foreigner on our thoughts of a private medical university in UK that resembles a lot like this university, sky-high fees and uncapped international student quota. It's really happening! shocking.gif

Don't mind sharing which are the universities.

You mean those with the academic requirement or those who need the others I stated?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody here did their medical electives in HKL? Thinking of applying there for part of my electives and I have a couple of questions but am having some difficulties getting a reply from HKL itself!

Ah whereabouts in North West? I've put NW as my first at the moment but a little wary after the SJT haha.

Aintree. I’m sure you’ll do fine. No one felt confident after the sjt but I haven’t heard of anyone who did horribly. Where are you thinking of applying to?
*
Was thinking about Royal Liverpool because of the rotations but that'll require me to score pretty well for SJT. Otherwise St. Helen's or Warrington seems ok too. Did you do Psych? Seems like loads have psych, not keen on it but I guess it'll be ok if I get the others I want lol.

Am on psych now actually, yeah there’s loads of psych. It’s a pretty chilled job with no on calls so it’s a good break. What rotations do you have in mind?
*
Haha, do you do GIM on call when you're on your psych rotation? I think they do in St. Helen's but I'm not sure if it's just that trust or it's a deanery thing. I'm looking to have one general surg (colorectal/UGI/HPB, not breast) or vascular surg + EM/ITU at least. I'm not too fussed about the rest as long as they're more general like geriatrics. Although I would wanna stay clear of psych but I think that's pretty inevitable for NW tongue.gif

Do you happen to know anything about Preston? There's a good chance I might go there if I can't get into St. Helen's cause of the jobs they offer.

something for students and junior doctors to think about....especially those in uk...
*
Yes, there's a lot of interesting discussions going on among doctors in training on social media at the moment.

I’ve got a friend who works in Preston. It seems okay but they don’t do nights as an F1 which is a bit odd and probably not the best for experience.
*
Oh, that's a shame. I was looking forward to do nights in FY1. I don't know yet if I want to do surgery, for now I'm interested in either the CST or ACCS route, then again my perception might change once I actually start doing the job, hence my intention to do more general rotations. I guess it all comes down to my SJTs haha, I've considered Aintree and will certainly not put Preston as my 1st choice if luck is on my side. Thanks again, that was really helpful.
