It was 250k before right?

Monash's fee is RM91k/year from 2013 onwards. Starting in late March instead of late Feb to catch STPM students wink.gif

the programme is going to be out of sync with clayton, in this case.....

i think they have accepted that they cannot reproduce the quality of their main clayton programme here...after all, they have already severely compromised their selection process and criteria....no point pretending sunway is the same as clayton....

i wonder how long before amc realised what is happening and deregister the sunway programme.....

limeuu will tell you that having the best student in sunway campus doesn't mean its on par with the australian campus.

Would be interesting to see the distribution chart between Clayton/Gippsland/Sunway and see where most Sunway students lie biggrin.gif

don't your lecturers show you that? hmm.gif for the pharmacy course during the beginning of the semester our lecturers always show us the best and lowest score for each unit between both campuses, along with the average score and median and standard deviation.

With 3 out of 5 top students coming from Sunway is worth mentioning and together with 8 first class honours really speak of the quality of the program.

If amc deregister the sunway program, it would be to their loss and the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine would have made an immediate impact.

I believe the first few batches from Monash Malaysia are quite good, requirement (for A-levels) is 3As and above, but that was during my time.

Had a friend who got an offer from the Aussie, but failed to get into Monash Malaysia, which is weird, lol.

Unless Disted Penang list is not accurate,Monash Sunway were accepting ATAR 90 to 91 for 2012.

Two year ago, it was still 3As but last year may have some lower than that.

It is not weird but sometimes we refused to accept that most students are on par. Let's be honest with ourselves that the lecturers in JB have todate done a fantastic job in moulding these outstanding students.

it is correct....they have accepted people rejected by imu-pms....which is ironic, as it was the reverse in 2006-2008.....

the first 3 batches have small numbers of 40-60, and carefully chosen...current intake licensed is 150, and they CANNOT find suitably qualified students with the grades, and thus like all other ipts med schools (with the exception of imu-pms), they have dumbed down their requirements.....

also, in the beginning everybody thought it is the same degree as the clayton version (indeed, the 1st 2 batches did their first 2 and 1 year(s) respectively at clayton) with full recognition.....now people know the sunway version is not recognised by smc and gmc....

and in addition, the internship crisis has hit, and people now know it is unlikely sunway graduates will find internship places by the time they graduate....

Thats a surprise.

I remember when I was on, there was something going between IMU and Monash, ie if you get rejected in either of the university, you are not eligible to apply for the other. Cant really remember the details of it.

Yea I supposed now the Monash Malaysia's graduates are going downhill, why did they increase the number of students to that much, given that Tan Sri JC has openly stated that whatever revenue they generate via the medical school is going straight back to fund the school (? is there a special term for it?).

I think ALL states now have put in place a priority list which makes Monash Malaysia graduates even more difficult to get a job in the Aussie. Ie South Australia, Monash Malaysia comes after international NZ grads.

it's called 'not-for-profit'.....not that it is different from 'non-profit'.....

any med school (or business for that matter) needs to have a certain critical size to break even and have efficient use of facilities....and i think it probably works out to be about 100 students per year.....so less than that, you will loose money, and more than that, you make money....that is why all programmes try to aim for about 150 places...probably the optimal size.....

but it is impossible, in the business model current (ie private full fees paying students) to attract the top students....as the majority (probably 90%) of the student population will not have the money...so the target group are those with lower results with rich parents who harbour great hopes for their children....and they use their own foundation programmes to 'comply' with mmc....

I think monash malaysia has 3 interview sessions, one after Alvl results are out, one after MUFY/AUSMAT/SAM results are out, and one in between. So... I guess that's a way to 'maximize' the spots?

Also, I need help smile.gif I'm planning to do my electives here in Malaysia, probably HKL. Was wondering whether it is hard to apply? (as in, do I need connections to get in or just by formal letters will do?) Anyone has done an elective/attachment there before can share their experiences? smile.gif I'm planning to either apply for OnG or internal med/GE. Still need to wait till uni reopens before I can know more about the elective program.

"I personally know how important it is to train the right doctors, after my painful experience of mis-diagnosis at the hands of Singaporean doctors."

Ironic, I think.

Also, "how to start a medical school"

Victoria too.

Geelong hospital used to be for Melbourne students, until Deakin came in - they initially shared the hospital and now Geelong is fully Deakin now.

Boxhill too, Deakin + Monash.
