"To err is human" is cliche, but surely there are certain protocols and checklists which surgeons in particular observe before procedures are started.

Maybe I should consider buying these two books!

that case by datuk hii has no basis.....he was appropriately advised, and was given the option of follow up assessment....he took the option to proceed for surgery...

steve job's situation may have influenced his decision.....

i doubt if the court will allow it to proceed....

Having worked in the Hospital with the least Whipple's complication rate in Australia, I have encountered several Whipple's patients that ended up not having pancreatic cancer. Seems like it is not uncommon for people to go ahead and resect the lesions seen in pancreas.

Hopefully there is no case.

this may be a good opportunity for medical students here to read a bit about neuroendocrine tumours in the pancrease and the issues involved in their treatment.

once you understand the issues, you will understand why sometimes (not infrequently, as tqeh noted) this happens. it is NOT wrong diagnosis, but just demonstrates the difficulties in predicting what the future may be......like many things in human lives, a judgement call is needed, and it can NEVER be always correct, unlike the check list for an aircraft.....

well, at least the good news is that he doesn't have pancreatic cancer. That's like a death sentence really.

Pelanggan terkejut caj cabut gigi RM300 sebatang

Posted on January 11, 2013, Friday

so... private dental practitioners don't need to adhere to any regulations on dental fees? no guidelines from MDC?
RM300 per tooth extraction, RM390 for filling teeth~ biggrin.gif

Some private dentists are going over their head already? - free2 get highlighted in newspaper~ laugh.gif

Once it has become too expensive for the masses and when our govt healthcare system has collapsed...
Don't be surprised if we have these 'dentists' too in our streets...:

Most Malaysians don't know the huge price gap, if it was advertised, perhaps they will and go for a holiday at the same time... Dental Tourism~

I don't think it will ever be advertised here in Malaysia... its counter-productive to our own 'medical/dental tourism'~ biggrin.gif

I know I would go there for bunch of dental treatments + holiday at the same time~ biggrin.gif

Just to add.

Cucms has apparently revised their medical school fee from 200k to 375k for the entire 5 year program.

75% increase of cost laugh.gif

Pending accreditation from MQA after the fiasco some more.

I am starting to think that Med school now are meat grinders to earn money, instead of really educating.

Let's pretend I'm naive but apparently, I still do have faith in humanity.

Oh well, 375k for an education.

Inflation's rate at 4% roughly now. In 5 years time, it would balloon up to around 500k just for a degree....

And once the first batch comes out, the fees will sky rocket again because they can brag that they are 'recognised'. smile.gif all in a days work to fish out money from students, desperate or not.

It's alright, it's much cheaper than overseas. MUCH cheaper. rclxub.gif

A little correction :-

1st batch already out.

It is just that because of the fiasco last time, the accreditation was changed to a 5 year by year approval my MQA.

So, they are technically not fully accredited yet. Might as well I top up another 30k and go IMU laugh.gif

Monash's fee is RM91k/year from 2013 onwards. Starting in late March instead of late Feb to catch STPM students wink.gif
