Msurg at MOHE when i was in anaesthesia my MO was talkingbout doing masters as a private candidate in case he didnt get in via scholarship
Is it possible if say im working in overseas ... But i do a msurg in malaysia? Means i wont be able to get in thru scholarship as it requires three years of skt 85% but i dont mind. Ill get my mrcs and publish some research while im overseas.
Preferably mohe rather than kpj coz its more established.. And i wonder how kpj does their msurg? As in.. Mos who dont work with kkm.. They gonna work in kpj as Mo? But no such post there. Lol
@cybersetan
Im pretty sure you cant just go in as a "private candidate"
this cmi was originally started with an annual federal budget of 10mil to fund 100 internship places...to cater for the lack of normal intern jobs over the last 5 years, due to increased graduating doctors (doubled over the last 10 years)....target group was imternational students in australia....
(note that commonwealth supported med students are all guaranteed internship places...ie all locals in csp are assured of jobs)
it was never fully subscribed....partly because the number of normal jobs have increased...
it was NEVER meant for imgs.....
the present relaxation to include imgs is to cater for 2 groups of foreign doctors who are eligible for provisional registration in oz....the monash msia med school and the uq ochsner clinical school in new orleans usa....as well as some who passed the amc exams....

That's real good news for local Monash Malaysia with this relaxations. In the event CMI vacancies being still available after allocations to Monash Malaysia/UQ Ochsner med graduates, would all the balance be offered to all qualified IMG's ? Am I right to suppose so ?
I dont think CMI is for IMGs. I don't see the part for IMU-twinning being eligible to apply CMI. Monash students can apply for internships in Australia only that they are given lower priority when it comes to selection.
Interestingly that they are still opening up spots for overseas candidates when RACGP is proposing to close off foreign intakes and also asking immi to take GP off the SOL list (as priority given to local grads)

Previous CMI guidelines specifically excluded IMU transfer students from the programme. Current guideline has become silent about this small group, but specifically imply an opening to the Monash Malaysia and UQ Ochsner graduates. By implication, it would appear the IMU students are now eligible, as part of the local international student group.
The racgp change of stance is more an industrial action, as the shortage of GPs in the regional areas eases. That is partly due to the doubling of graduates over the last 12 years, leading to intense competition for metropolitan jobs, and hence an increased interest in regional jobs. It also follows the rural medical school initiative of 20 years ago, and the rural bonded places, which reduces reluctance to work in regional areas. Finally, the increased retention of foreigners from the local international student pool, as well as IMG migrants, and the decision to only allow non local born GP trainees to train in regional areas have managed to fill many of the regional shortages.

Ah whereabouts in North West? I've put NW as my first at the moment but a little wary after the SJT haha.
Aintree. I’m sure you’ll do fine. No one felt confident after the sjt but I haven’t heard of anyone who did horribly. Where are you thinking of applying to?

Was thinking about Royal Liverpool because of the rotations but that'll require me to score pretty well for SJT. Otherwise St. Helen's or Warrington seems ok too. Did you do Psych? Seems like loads have psych, not keen on it but I guess it'll be ok if I get the others I want lol.

Am on psych now actually, yeah there’s loads of psych. It’s a pretty chilled job with no on calls so it’s a good break. What rotations do you have in mind?
Hi All, I've question to ask here, appreciate if someone know the answer. My kid just completed his mufy foundation in pure science mufy foundation (English, physics, maths, Chem combination) and obtained reasonable good marks with average aggreate scores 88.6 and he told me he is not keen in engineering courses and besides Monash Sunway U, I wonder anyone know any private local medical college accept pure science student into Medical school or pharmacy. TIA

Here is the official requirements by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) to enter medical degree programs:
...Your kid doesn't fulfill the requirement of Biology...
For MUFY, as stated in the MMC requirements:
- Aggregate or average of 80% or the equivalent of any B in any 3 subjects: * Biology AND * Chemistry AND * Physics OR Mathematics
If your kid not interested in Engineering... how about teaching? as in Bachelor of Education? (such as TESL, Physics, Mathematics, etc) or... Banking? Commerce? Land surveying? Geology?

In many countries, biology is not a prerequisite for medicine, but chemistry is...
Local universities need to comply with MMC requirements, although many still do not....

88.6 for MUFY is pretty average and no where near good...

Without pre-U Bio, can one apply for IMU-PMS programme ?

In fact, I also don't know what scores is bad, average, good or excellent for MUFY graduate result. For me as a parent, I'm happy with my son results as long he can continue pursuit his tertiary education at Monash U.
There are cheaper and MMC recognized medical schools you know... Does your kid even want to study medicine?
Try have him read a Biology book first... see if likes it...
Biology sure no problem for him, he obtained A for his biology subject in SPM. just I've poorly advised him to take pure science combination in MUFY bcos his Chemistry, Physics and Modern Maths scored A+, In fact, He did well in his SPM exam last year with 5A+, 2A, 2A- and 1B+.

The question still stands... does your kid want to do medicine? or do you want him to do medicine? Many of my colleagues quit medical school and housemanship to do something else that they actually enjoy...
You better be sure of what he wants to do, it is a very large investment to do medicine...

since it can't meet the MMC requirement. I think my son have to explore others courses like business, law and actuarial science. personally I prefer he go for business or law courses.

Business and Entrepreneurship - that is where the $$$ actually is... Not medicine... not Law... If your son is ambitious enough, he might be the next 'Jack Ma'...
