anyone wishes to defend foundation in science [Malaysia]....

Current students and graduates of MBBS using FIS as their  preu  may wish to share their thoughts.

there is nothing to defend...anyone worth his salt will have done a proper pre u....if they want it fast, do the ausmat/sam lah.....same 1 year....

mmc should have followed the bar council's action, restricting only those with a proper pre-u to sit for the clp....

Agree..

Spoke to someone who transferred from FIS[ after 5 months] to A level and the kid said A level is extremely tough vs FIS. His friends with mixed SPM results are scoring As with ease [forget about B lah] and are joining MBBS in the like of Newcastle Malaysia,Penang Medical School etc. These are supposed to be the better ones.

Wonder whether they will struggle in the course and FIS graduates in these better schools may wish to share. Is marking similiar to the home students i.e the Irish program?

IMO, if they know what they want and where to go, just let them do it as long they are committed regardless of what pre-u. (1 year in comparison to 1 and a half to 2 )

I dont believe coming from different pre-u course gives you an advantage or disadvantage in terms of academic wise since you generally ease into the medical course as long you do what is needed. A levels was tough but defo doable with all the past year questions. (regurgitating is all you need)

the problem is, many "foundations" are sham courses to enable students to get into medicine....d and e students in spm miraculously become a students in these foundations, some of which are as short as 5 months....

it is for this reason that the mmc guidelines specifically include spm results for those doing foundation....5b in maths and sciences being the minimum....

yeah, as long the students are aware of the minimum requirement by MMC, which hopefully is stated everywhere now.
to me, is more of the "cheaper" courses from russia, indonesia and etc which gets me worried.

there are many graduating students now, who enrolled in 2011 and after the guidelines was introduced....

there are also students enrolled in recent years in ipts who also do not meet the minimum....

in spite of the guidelines being known by all, students and med schools...

Just sharing some of relative's experience on recent graduates as houseman.

Despite a lot of criticisms on some of those foreign universities, there are some graduates who are on par with some of the established universities locally. When you are smart, irrespective from where you graduate, you can still make it though through a much harder way of self learning and diligence and hardwork.

Yes, there are many incompetent ones around also and many of them also come from public universities and quite a number of them go missing once they clocked in. The competent ones are pushed to the max and the "captain" knows who are those who can work and rotate them accordingly with one of those misfits tagging along.

Despite oversupply situation, it seems that there is still a shortage of medical housemen and officers and many complaints of overworked.

Is being put on call 2 or 3 times a week considered overworked? (Start at 7am in the morning and off at 12 noon the next day). Maybe the older days it was tougher.

nobody is disputing that....hence the minimum qualifications guidelines....

of course there are duds from ipta as well....no surprises as they take in their fair share of sub-optimal students, in compliance with national policies.....

Hmm..... could (approved) local IPTA/IPTS medicine programmes and MMC's huge overseas recognition list be a part of the grand scheme of social engineering here ?

hmm, glasgow has already closed their clearing and is already filled up in st georges. I heard Liverpool went to clearing as well.

I wonder whats the main reason behind it. was it the exorbitant fees or was it something else like the state of NHS. tongue.gif

Liverpool went into clearing for home students only. Anyway, all filled now. So there were lucky applicants this year.
NHS - sigh! Relative got first pay check today, elated apparently. Haha.

Wait list candidates did not take up these places could be the reason...a distant relative was in wait list in one of the two but is now in IMU PMS.[4 A* in A level]

Mine will be paid on the last Wednesday of the month, August 30th.

Bolehland is better, into the bank account by the 22nd. Increment from the second year not adjusted yet due to "technical hitch" at HR. (Not that they don't have the money laugh.gif )

New med schools accepting one year foundation programme...

https://www.kingseducation.com/university-p...e-at-kings.html

Manchester med and dent have been accepting NCUK foundation which is also one year.

It is expensive with fees exceeding RM 100k excluding living cost but still cheaper than doing A level in UK.

And yet 4 A* students are rejected.
