I think UK's GMC is more proper than MMA/C.

I particularly like this in their website:

"But the customer at Buckingham is you" biggrin.gif

there is a website which lists the conditional offer grades of all uk med schools, unfortunately i can't find it now.....

what i remember from the list, which was based on the 2011/12 round (and the beginning of the a* grade which was first awarded the year before) was that while most med schools was still offering aaa, several have already started asking for at least 1 a*, starting with oxbridge which ask that for practically all courses....

i am quite sure this round (13/14), the majority of med schools will already be asking for a*aa....that is still a pretty wide net, encompassing about maybe 12% of all a levels candidates....

there will still be the odd low offers, for people they really want....ie with attributes other than sheer academic powess.....eg sportsman, musicians etc...

for prospective medical students who have poor academic results and a 'passion' to be a doctor and wanting to enrol in unrecognised med schools, do note that the new mmc guideline now prohibit such students from attempting the mqe if the don't satisfy the minimum qualifications for entry into med schools....basically, you pay for a useless piece of paper, you can never be registered as a doctor...

http://mmc.gov.my/v1/index.php?option=com_...=111&Itemid=161

it's about time....and i think it is still too lax....other countries restrict their med students to straight a students or >atar95....

Tell the aussies about atar 80 for medicine, and they will think it's the funniest thing ever.

Hi guys! I am an Alevel student who is going to be sitting for AS in October. I would like to enquire about interviews. I have already taken my UKCAT and IELTS, getting a 767.5 average and a band 8 respectively.

I am applying for Cambridge, Imperial, Kings and Manchester. Can fellow medical students shed some light on the interviews, your experiences and advices?
*
You will have to sit for the BMAT too. Regarding interviews, different universities interview differently. Check out threads in The Student Room.

Minister Idris Jusoh said today that Malaysian students studying medicine, dentistry and pharmacy in Egypt can transfer credits to local universities, one year below current level.

Even then, are they up to par?
*
So I guess it can ONLY mean that they actually know the standard in Egyptian unis are much lower than local unis, but sent them there anyway!

How is the education standard in Egypt compared to that in Russia?
*
I have no idea, but I do know there are a couple of decent (international) medical schools in Russia, but can never remember the names. Perhaps those who have worked alongside with some would share their opinions, as they can gauge objectively.

Actually I think medical students should use cardio 3 steths. It's loud so we can pick up signs more easily. Moreover a stethoscope can last very long, that extra dollars will even put in the long run.

Provided one doesn't lose it along the way...LOL

It's just like some doomsayers forecasting the imminent collapse of the economy.
Someone please share with me which professional group unable to find employment or fail to make a living. Doctors are still among the highest professional earners and even if there is a drop of 50%, it is still comparable with other professions.

In the malaysian context, with all kinds of endless possibilities, one can't help wondering, and if you really analyse without rose tinted glasses, it can be a disturbing prospect. Of course every medical student now will aim to be one of the 3000 (according to limeuu) that is really needed annually. BUT.......

Medicine is an easy field hey? Just advice patients to 'rest more, more fluids' or 'get me an CXR' and charge them RM80-200. Easy money, we should all just stop what we are doing, get into a med school and be a doctor! And start earning heaps!

I am very sure MANY will miss the sarcasm, and be further fueled by your "encouragement". laugh.gif

You'll want a smart phone once you start housemanship. Oxford handbook doesnt cut it anymore, but sarawak handbook, paeds protocol and Frank Shann chart are very useful survivor tools.

If you can afford uptodate or other EBM apps, thats even better. I was forced to buy a smartphone as I was frequently outgunned by my peers. When specialist ask question, they expect fast answer,i.e: hide behind your friend and start googling.
*
What is a "sarawak handbook"?

You need to be more specific. Is this still related to practicing in Australia?

Remembered you mentioned about Auscat. If our M'sian students are not required to sit for it for Monash Malaysia, how one can work in Australia ? Is that another issue they face as they did not qualify for this exam therefore, not in the list to work there ? Thanks.

What is Auscat?
