still long way to go , now just doing internship with a mid tier firm .

btw , any comment on internal audit ? . does it provide good prospect as compared to external audit ?.

currently in audit department , but for future i might not limit myself only for audit as i see there are so many choice in accounting line ,( advisory , tax , audit , internal audit)

sorry about that it is getting out of topic.
*
internal audit is mostly business process audit... usually to detect fraud

external audit is mostly financial reporting... usually for compliance and irregularities.. there's also process audit

i would say external audit have more structured learning & promotion... when u give up, u can be an accountant... if u hav pro. cert.

for internal audit if u leave u can be a consultant... at those advisory firms/big 4

first thing first... if u manage to be an accountant fresh out of school then good... r you doing ur internship in sg?

FYI, this person just a fresh grad with average grade.

most likely the company have a structural pay scale (min and max) for each group/position and you expected salary is below the min for your position. So bump it up to hit the min in that group ?

not really, at least not for big companies. You could always check with your HR on the pay structure for each group.

a lot higher...lets just say it is a totally not normal range (very much way off the scale) for a fresh grad
why? i suppose too specific which in turn means u are stuck in that job forever cause unable to transfer skillset outside of the company.

hmm..what kind of skillset cannot be transfer? then when he going to change job, is just another fresh grad, ppl will still accept it due to the high paid...if the increment is good, well i guess accepting the offer is still the correct decision? tongue.gif

As Mackiddo said... pay structure. For the global MNCs I've experienced, if you are hired into a certain job level, you get paid the salary for that job level - even if you stated a lower expected salary.

The reason is that you will find sooner or later from your colleagues if you're being paid equitably for your job level.

And sometimes, I come across some candidates who are simply 'unaware' of what they are worth (in terms of the job level/salary expected, given the responsibilities of the role). If they have a strong profile, I don't mind giving them a very pleasant surprise. I don't want them to get pissed off after they find out that their peers gets paid more than them. I think this builds a lot of trust and goodwill.

That means it all come back to MNC or local company. I thought the pay structure is fixed by the CEO, what i mean is the CEO will say "for each role, this is the max he/she can get, if can get lower the better." brows.gif

Apple is the best company, no point comparing Apple with other company, unless you are talking about EM, then different story.
Those company like Service source i bet they are outsource company. Outsource are usually lower interms of pay grade and workload is very high.

mid-tier in SG should be paying around S$2.3k-2.4k for a fresh graduate. big 4 10-20% more whereas small firm 10-20% lesser.
