Is it safe to check email by using free public wifi on my own laptop ?
I am using gmail.

(asume I have the Internet security suites on my laptop and everything has the latest updated)

Is it possible that the hacker able to intercept our email password if they wanted to?

I don't think public Wifi is totally safe, there will be way to hijack your session.
Use proxy, then make sure you are in a secure connection. (https)

Just as an added guidance, avoid the evil twin.

I've not experienced one yet, but this is very dangerous.

checking email in public wifi area is consider safe. unless you are not using secured connection such as SSL/TLS when downloading your email or sending out your email.

currently, all email service provider already implement SSL/TLS and MS Outlook already support it long time ago.

so it should be safe to check your email in public wifi.
