Warning! I got my S3 yesterday not sure is defective or what, after using 24 hours found out the screen have long line of scratch (more of long deep crack). Also the smart stay not working at all.

Really disappointed with quality. Going to SME and see can replace the screen or not. I don't even know it is me or the phone is defective. I never hit the phone or drop it but have use it alot with finger.

Advice is to protect this s3 with cover or screen protector because quite fragile

kinda looks like you register just to post this? hmm.gif

do you enable the smart stay in setting?
*
I forgot my previous so I re register new user to follow the s3 news few days ago. I did not register today to post this.

sigh really heart broken to see the crack on my phone. I did enable smart stay and only one or two time work when i go really close to phone. But 90% of the time don't work.

I think more and more news will talk about the screen and smart stay problem. But I really did hope I got the defective one. Going to SME later...

may i ask did you have long fingernail?
and do you have long hair covering your eye?

nothing to do with saying you at fault, just want to know the limit of S3.
*
No long fingernail, no long hair covering eye. Just got excited and use the phone for long hour then suddenly feel there is crack and I turn off the screen and saw the crack. When turn on cant see. I also own S2 without any problem.

So how the status now? Why the photo look like no home button at the bottom?
*
I took the picture from iphone with flash light on...so the bottom cant see..

So the story continue....

I went to samsung service center PJ with my s3. The people are shock of what happen to it...imagine it shock them how it effect me whole night..basically I did not sleep whole night because thinking how I got the scratch. At first I thought it might be defect but think deeper I might really scratch it playing too much with it but still dunno how I did it. Only less than 24 hours I got big scratch on the screen..(feel like banging my head to wall). After the service center people cleaned the screen, we look closely found another long line scratch along the screen. Lesson learned immediately... don't use it without screen protector (might need flip open leather case).

Bad news is screen not cover by warranty no matter you bought it after one hour or what. Even it is screen defect you suppose to check the phone before you leave. Another Bad news is the screen replacement is super expensive but since I am the first customer in Malaysia to do s3 warranty I got 30% discount but still very expensive. After they told me the price, I almost fainted & hesistate for 15 minutes and few of the worker there begin take side to give me advice. But i took the side of getting screen replace. I just love this phone and can't deal with fact the screen is like that.

Enough of Bad news. It is friday!!! They have the screen in stock (very suprise they have many stock like expecting lots of replacement tongue.gif ) So Good news is I can get the screen replace by a pro there immediately. He is very pro and got it done under 1 hours. So I am first S3 warranty Customer in Malaysia (maybe in asia <-- nothing to be proud of )

Don't get me wrong I love this phone that why i have to spend more to get it fix. Overall samsung people are nice and helpful. I am storing my s3 away for a few days untill I got it screen protected plus getting a flip case.

To people hunting for s3 you will love the phone but take good care. I set a bad example..

Ivan, did you get back the olds screen to test the gorilla glass again? Really curious how you scratch it. Try again if you brought it back.
*
Ya my friend told me after i got my screen fixed he is suprise he say it is gorilla glass 2 suppose to be tough. But really I don't think so. I wan to keep the old screen without doing anything to it anymore. 1st so sad to remind me already. 2nd in case my fixed screen got even worst scratch in the future (choi....touch wood)..i can use old one.

Scratch resistant, not scratch proof. It can still be scratched by objects that have higher hardness rating than gorilla glass. Tiny sand in pocket is one of it
*
Ya i think you are right.. not scratch proof.
