On the PC, having a soundcard with a dedicated headphone amp will improve the sound clarity so much I wonder why there isn't a headphone amp on its wireless receiver. Mistake by Turtlebeach.

Back onto the Tiamat query, did you try disabling all software sound processing from the Xonar Phoebus? That includes equalizer profiles too if you had any.
From the limited time I had with the Tiamat 7.1, it is a very good sounding headset to me. Certainly no "echoish" sounds that you mentioned.
