Hello there people.

So recently my dad bought this Lumia 800 for my mum for her birthday. It's a freaking great phone, except for one MAJOR drawback. It cannot use its Bluetooth to send and receive files. At first I though maybe it has the 3.0 and my phone and dad's which are at 2.1 isn't that compatible (both Nokia). Turns out it too has 2.1. It will pair up for a bit, and then doesn't, and then when it does somehow pair up it will say "not supported". Laptop, phone, nothing.

I read over the net and found out that it's a Windows problem. It won't allow us to send data through Bluetooth. So anything that we can do, or do we just wait and hope there's some update that will address this?

Also do you have to have Zune to connect to PC? I tried plugging it into my laptop and it doesn't install properly. I just downloaded Zune and will try later, but can you just plug it in and drag files into it? I have XP SP3 only so maybe the more advanced Windows have no problems with that. Is that so?

(Also I had to miniaturize my mum's SIM card to fit it. Hope Digi is okay with that. tongue.gif )

Oh and um, is the ringtone volume that low, and if not how do we turn it up?

Next version of Windows Phone 8 should have alternative ways for connecting to PCs.
But as for Bluetooth, I don't think Microsoft will allow file transfer. They want to control the media like iPhone/iTunes.

Dang....oh well, for the last 6 years with her old phone I can count how many times she uses BT to transfer files. laugh.gif
Any other ways to transfer files wirelessly though?

So, the Windows Phone 8 will be available, when?

Oh ok.
But I really hope Windows change their minds about FTP over Bluetooth.
This phone is already damn near perfect. sad.gif

For the Zune part, it's quite ok for me.

For transferring files to PC just plug in, Zune will open, find your files, highlight it, drag to the PC symbol and done.
For transferring to phone, do the same thing but highlight the files in your com and drag to Zune instead.

The ring volume just press the volume button to adjust it. Can adjust anywhere like when you're at the homescreen or so.

Ya I agree that the bluetooth part is the worst thing in WP7. dry.gif

Yea i do feel the need of it when I want musics file from my friend's phone. anyway zune music player very weak, cant change it bass or sound setting.

no worry, wp8 got NFC if u plan to upgrade.

It's not living the "smart" part in its "smartphone" title.
Although I have been doing a bit of research, and there was a rumour since May that Nokia may release a sort of app to handle FTP with Bluetooth. I hope they'll include that app in 7.8.

The upgrade won't be any time soon. It is after all a gift, and the phone was on crazy offer yesterday (only RM999). Seeing as how camera quality and general ease of use were the main priorities we thought it was good. If the upgrade to Windows 7.8 allows for other ways to connect to the PC, and the rumour is true that Nokia will release an app for Bluetooth FTP, then the phone will be perfect.

Actually even though it has those shortcomings, I'm still a bit jealous of my mum ATM. tongue.gif

Oh and about the sound, it is the FLATTEST sounding music player of any kind I have ever listened to. The elevated treble was actually pretty good though, as it was revealing but not entirely piercing, and that's saying something since I use a Grado SR60i to try it out. The serious lack of bass though is killing it. It could be very good sounding. Apparently according to GSMarena, it happens when connected to a headphone. Maybe it's the amp? I wish I had the JDS Labs cMoyBB still to hook it up to this baby. It really does have the potential to be good.

I agree with you on the Zune music player too, there should at least be a decent equalizer.

Removing scratches from the coating means taking off a very thin layer of the whole coating altogether. Do that many times and you'll end up having no protective coating at all. The glass is meant to resist (resist, not entirely prevent) big scratches and only allow micro scratches over time.

When my dad bought the phone, it already comes with an anti-fingerprint screen protector. I didn't see what brand they used but it seem sto be pretty good and evenly stuck on with no bubbles. I assume that it can be acquired at any good mobile phone shop. Ask an original retailer, maybe they'll know. As for online, try the garage sales here. Some people bring in a few quality ones from overseas.

There was a brand that I had looked into when I had my 5800, that seems to be recommended by a lot of people. I forgot the name though, sorry. I do seem to remember that some people do sell them here.

Updated just now. Yes, actually I was just about to ask you guys whether it is confirmed that bass response has improved or was it just my head. So turns out it is elevated.

Treble goes down by a bit. Now I won't say it's flat, I'd say it's a bit more neutral. Although it is still quite "cold" sounding (not a negative point, just a sound preference), and bass isn't quite there yet, but quite enough except if you're a bass head.

Also the speed improvement is quite noticeable.

Guys, the latest up date should have the flip-to-silence feature. How come on my mum's phone it's not working? Or is that feature only available in certain countries? Also the update should also allow the Lumia 800 to become a Wifi hotspot. How do we do that?

Ooooh. I like the last bit about the media file transfer over Bluetooth. brows.gif At last, it feels that we bought my mother a true Nokia phone. For a bit it almost feels like we bought her an iPhone. laugh.gif

It is supposed to be the latest. hmm.gif
Well, I'll check to see if it is an 8773. If it does and still doesn't work, then I guess I'll just have to let it pass. laugh.gif
