Hi, I got my mom the lumia 800 2 days ago. I chose it over android and the rest because of how simple and straightforward the phone is. She loves the phone, considering she had a very chokia nokia last time ( lol ).

The disappointment came when she had it for the first day and found out there is no light for sms notification. I told her I'd look at the phone to find any settings that may help.

I know that the iphone can make a notification sound up to 5 times every minute to notify arrival of a new message. There should be SOMEthing the phone can pro-actively do to signal new messaging right? Maybe flash the windows home LED key ? Or is this thing not yet implemented or will come in the new windows phone update?

The update trick did work for me on the 3rd try. My style: I just estimate about halfway through the time it takes to check for update then disable my LAN connection using windows network connections.

Unifi 10Mbps, windows 7 64 bit professional.

Updating now. They had better improve the message notification system!

Update: firmware downloaded and i saw it installing. After restart still same firmware number. WTF!

Verified! You're right. I think it updated the windows OS first. Now I've successfully done the nodo method twice. Here's more steps to ensure success :

1. Start your timer as soon as you click update.
2. Take note of the time it takes to check for update. (Mine was 11-12 seconds, unlike the 6 seconds reported in nodo's method).
2a. Repeat the update check.
3. Click disable network adaptor about 1 second before your recorded time in step 3.
4. It'll probably fail. Scale back one second earlier on your timer. Repeat 1 second back every retry. You will hit the sweet spot for your setup and update will be found.

yeah, I wasn't thinking of the LED like BB. I want something like the iphone does when it receive a message. When you receive an sms, it will make the usual sound, but then after 1 minute it will make another sound if we havent read the sms.

We can set it up to repeat 5 times to make the sms tone. This way much lesser chance to miss sms.

UGH SAKIT HATIIIIII I just contributed RM500 for the phone as a gift !

btw I dont see camera extras in the nokia collection. WHy is this the case?? I see only nokia maps etc in malay

ran into 2 issues with the phone:

1. Can't receive skype calls from lock status.

2. No push notification from whatsapp of incoming messages.


Any fixes you know?

You can add "unable to check data usage" to my list of disappointments with this phone now. Sigh!!

I don't trust apps. What I mean to say is that you can't dial *100# to get the easy menu nor use *136*9*1# All those don't work. It's not supported in the windows OS.

Anyone out there got use any apps that they trust to check data usage?
