Another fine day for rumors, and today we have a fairly big one. Chinese tech site WPDang just announced that according to their resources, the Windows Phone 7.8 OS update will be pushed to all older generation devices (Windows Phone 7.5 and older) in every corner of this world at about 18:00 GMT, January 30, 2013. Considering you guys could be located anywhere, I will not convert that into some other time zone. Instead let's just say that if it is true indeed, your old Windows Phone will probably get a nice update in 5 hours. Not every phone will get the push exactly on that time though. Like each update before, Windows Phone 7.8 will roll out in 4 waves, with the whole process concluding in 3 weeks.

This sounds a bit crazy, since the update is supposed to be covering ALL older devices, regardless manufacturer, region or carrier. Microsoft has never done this before. OEM and Carrier delays have been always a pain upon every Windows Phone OS update. Earlier HTC said they probably will abandon HD7. But if WPDang gets it right, Microsoft will take up where HTC left and finish the job.

how to force update? i googled, but not working for me it seems.

is it need to force update for windows 7.8 ?
i plug into zune but it says my version is up to date

just a few tips to make it easy (referring to the guide linked by ashdwoers)

the update notice may take more than 10 second at first attempt, so repeat the check until you get almost the same time on every check. take note on how long till the notice appear. let say the notice will come up 7 seconds after u click the 'update', disable your connection on the 6th sec. it take 2 time of minor update before the major one so that means you need to repeat the process for 3 times. good luck

it's good that my unifi is not so fast, took 7 sec so i can be ready. read on the comment section, it took 2 sec for some of them. way fast that it hurts 

i don't know why but i can't find bluetooth share and ringtone maker in the marketplace. tried using qr code from pc, still cannot download, says that it is not available for my region.

which region u select?

I like china and us market. A lot app not available here.

I set mine to singapore too but ringtone maker are not available for my phone
