DRB Hicom is a profit based company; they do not have obligation like Khazanah to create a National Car.
After they have spend RM 1.291 billion to buy Proton from Khazanah
They have to quickly make a profit or at least break even.
2nd quarter last year proton Profit decrease from 65.9 million to 15.6 million, one of the reason due to Lotus high operation cost(£14 million) and also underutilized Tanjung Malim plant.
And half year(2011) profit is 47 million compared to RM185 million recorded in the corresponding period last financial year(2010)
How many years DRB need to get back 1.291 billion
if they can only make RM47 Million for every 1/2 year?
GM interested to buy Tanjung Malim and Genii Capital interested to buy Lotus. I guess the best opportunity for DRB to reduce the Proton expense
Can Proton create their own engine without help of Lotus? I doubt.
Can other car manufacturer transfer technology to Proton by partnership? I doubt
DRB need to compete. The most easiest way is rebatch like what NAZA(KIA) and Sime Darby(Inokom) did.
Will Preve stop from production? I don’t think so, because the RND cost for Preve is RM540 million, they have to at least get their money back.
So enjoy Driving our Preve that could potentialy become last Compro and Lotus DNA
Just my 2 cents
Shah alam plant is super tringle area DRB can sell it at RM2 billion.....roi doneAfter they have spend RM 1.291 billion to buy Proton from Khazanah
