Gotta disagree that the VI is superior to the HD800 however as the HD800 excels in many aspects that the VI fails at (Unless you like FAD coloration, if that is your sort of thing)
As Lego man mentioned, perhaps a bad source and amp pairing could be the reason why the T1/HD800 sounded average or bad. The sensitivity of the FAD VI is too sensitive for my liking which makes choosing an amp extremely difficult to match due to obvious noise floor.
