Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is posted.
Need help on a clip which I am converting to avi or mkv from a HD video cam which is MOD extension.
The problem with the clip after conversion is it becomes like the pic below.
There are lines on the side of the person. Appreciate all the feedback.

Any reason why this is happening and how to avoid it ?

*I tried changing resolution and bitrate and fps also same

Thanks

Before - Original
Attached Image

After - Mkv or avi also same

Thats compression artifacts, it's inevitable if doing transcoding.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG#Compress...o_and_artifacts
Use x264 with high quality preset, or Lossless video codec (<does not make sense anyway lol)

Converting to MKV or AVI will not change the video quality since they are just container, basically i can just put h264 video to mkv,mp4,avi,mpg blah blah and they are just the "same" thing.

Does this mean there is no possible option to convert the format without hurting the image ?
Not even if I change to lossless or high quality ....

Wandering how people do conversion on DVD and blueray ripping without affecting the image.

I dunno the source video quality so i can only guessing,
you have to filter out those noise first, 'cause you cant "see" the noise with you bare eyes but they will affecting the transcoded video quality.
Use hqdn3d, fft3dgpu denoiser, ect, the former one is good enough but need to mod abit so it could run at multithreaded mode,
the latter is faster if you have amd 7800 or 7900 gpu.
Try MeGUI first, tons of filters inside iirc.

hello, don't panic, this is just a simple problem. a lot of people get this part wrong when converting an interlaced footage to another format.
u need to de-interlace your video when converting. what software are u using to convert these files? also what's your footage framerate? is it 50i? or 60i?
