hi all,

i'm currently using MBP 2010 model.

i'm thinking to change to MBA since i need a lighter lappy to bring around.

i'm torn apart between MBA late 2010 VS MBA 2011

which one worth to get?

i know the major difference between them is MBA 2010 using core2duo processor while 2011 version using i5 processor.

although it is readily known that the i5 is an improved technology from Intel, for better performance and energy efficient, is it? but is there noticeable improvement between those two model version if we run them side by side?

is there any other major improvement on the 2011 model? anyone can list down?

apart of performance, my concern is also about budget. obviously MBA 2010 model is cheaper now. so if there is no big difference between them, i rather go for MBA 2010 to save some cash.

any advice will be much appreciated.

thanks all. notworthy.gif

so far there is only rumors about the next Macbook. no exact fact can be found anywhere.. and i heard it will be more expensive with the retina display? a macbook air don't need to be so expensive la, so far it serves its purpose, so why need a retina display?

anyway, any advice for me here? MBA late 2010 VS. MBA 2011? anyone? please.

You already know the differences is in the area of processing speed. So I think if you need a valid opinion you will need to let us know your usual daily tasks and expectation from the Macbook Air. Then only we can advise you. smile.gif

yea, but i only know fact, not practically. blush.gif

as in my question above, is there any significant improvement on MBA 2011 using the i5 proc compared to the 2010 MBA if they run side by side?

and apart from that, is there any other improvement on the latest model? any physical differences, like extra USB hub, longer lasting battery, better display or anything? (which i don't know) i just want to know if it still worth to buy 2010 MBA now.

i'm getting the MBA mainly to be used for document writing and presentation when i'm out of office. while at home/office, i always prefer to use PC due to the large screen, and more powerful. i already got MBP, but it is very underutilized. its still empty inside, only got Microsoft office installed, and only used when i'm outstation. that why i think macbook air suites me better.

Well, it's already obvious. Two different processors. So, the processing speed will be different. If just for light surfing and music or presentations etc, i think the 2010 MBA would suffice.

No need to waste money. If you have extra, why not, you can opt for the i5 model instead.

If you can wait for another few months, I believe there is a major change on their MBP and MBA including the design. Spare a bit of extra cash to get the latest laptop rather than old laptop.

how many months bro? ><

sometime i really need a lappy.. thus wonder if i can wait..

furthermore, news i heard, the Macbook Pro will be thinner, using SSD, thus there might be a possibility that Apple will stop the Macbook air lineages?? hmm.gif

just get it whenever you need it. Performance wise will not be much different. Current MBA i5 is good to use for your case of usage smile.gif

Macbook Pro will launch first followed by Macbook Air in Q3. By the time Macbook Air launched all the world will be ready for a new refreshed Macbook Pro due in 2013.

Got Retina Display on all upcoming MBP and MBA. thumbup.gif
Since you got MBP means you're not in a hurry to change also.

So I suggest you wait, perhaps the new MBP may suit you. It's not long away, one more month to go only. smile.gif

ermm.. I've been using MBA for quite sometime, and not really using it.. very underutilized.. coz all heavy stuff i do in my PC. at my office already got quad-core iMac. so i don't think i will get another MBP.

i think i will just swap my MBP with late 2010 MBA for now..

thanks for responding guys. notworthy.gif
