I know right?

Let me go check out the pool one morning this weekend to verify the working hours. Saw from all sorts of post online it closes at 5 pm. Hoped it has changed.

I ended up swimming in Chin Woo yesterday.

Got a name card for instructor, Ching Guan, anyone knows him? Is he good?

Planning to improve my freestyle strokes with some guidance and hopefully manage a duathlon next year.

So hopefully can get some tips here.. haha

Hello, I'm new in this thread here. Hope can learn from you guys.

btw, MSN pool supposedly National Sport Complex in Setiawangsa, have really hard hours and really funny operation lol. Ok so it only open Tuesday- Thursday 2-4.30 pm, Friday 2.45- 4.30. Saturday- Sunday have morning session at least 10-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm BUT because they work office hours, funny thing is, if you want to swim weekend, you have to buy tickets in advanced during office hour Mon-Fri. I called and said, how, because I work, then they say, that's how it is, because no staff can issue receipt on the weekends. sweat.gif

on weekend, I went once and apparently there is some people working as part time, maybe lifeguard, they stay in the room and only occasionally come out to see swimmers.

But the real kill is this, the pool is 50m, which is good for laps, but, the final 20m is the deep end with 5m depth, sooooo, because they 'afraid' of swimmers safety, they block with line to 30m only. And you cannot go to the deep part. Meaning if you want to do lap, at 30m you don't have a wall to turn doh.gif They say because if people who can swim go, people who cannot swim also go and get in trouble. ha ha ha!

So I ask, why, they said the deep one is for when scuba divers or some people booking for training, then only can use.

Such a pity because it's a pool nearby me and nice pool too, but can't be fully utilised.

Exactly my sentiments!

It was such a nice pool, but the operating hours.. 2 - 4:30 pm outdoor? Its so freaking hot!

Sounds more like a pool for parents or housewife to bring their kids to.

I live so nearby, don't even have the opportunity to use it on weekend due to the ticketing. I have to drive all the way to bukit jalil to swim.

This sports complex is so underutilised, its a waste of public fund.
*
Also not kid friendly pool if you meant housewives bring kids to splash around as they dont have kiddie pool. That's the full big sized pool, unless if kids can swim laps already then can use. Yeah like you said, In short underutilised and was te of public fund.

Such a shame, I go to PJpalm to swim as I use public transport, so easy by lrt. But on weekends at nights weekdays, supercrowded, they accept too many booked activities in the pool.

For TYR goggles you can get them over here:
http://www.suriaklcc.com.my/shopping/sports-fitness/stadium/

For Aqua Sphere kayenne goggle you can visit any Rip curl branches in Malaysia, they should have them:
http://www.suriaklcc.com.my/shopping/fashion/rip-curl/

As for Speedo, unfortunately no, but you can try buying them online but is not gonna be cheap though.
*
Some shopping complex has the brands you mentioned.

TYR has sections in Jusco midvalley, Jusco AEON Wangsa Maju and Royal Sport house.

Speedo got some sport shop carry, I saw in Nusentral, forgot the outlet name but it's a shop like the Royal Sport House which sell running shoes, tracksuits etc. usually the swimming section is small but they have Speedo. One more shop I saw Speedo is the Sport Direct in Sunway Putra Mall.

However in these shops the range is limited, so you need to go see what you want there.

Bukit Jalil is convenient too, public transport to bukit jalil station.

I know trainers or coach teaches at PJ Palm though, contemplated taking up some lessons to improve my strokes.

How was the pool in PJ Palm? Standard olympic?
*
Oh from Bukit Jalil LRT, is it walking distance to the pool? If it is then I can try some days. do they allow fins in the pool?

PJPalm is not standard olympic, length wise 50m but width is 18m. the white line 15m marker is also at 17m instead of 15m. but for leisure like me, oklah, enough facilities.

I train for diving so the deep part is convenient and Pjpalm is the only public pool so far that allows fins and such.

PJ Palms... first impressions irked me. Half the pool is gone reserved for "lessons" which I see a few kids at the side chatting like in mamak,

the other half is overloaded like a sausage fest.

Should ask for 50% discount from ticket counter.
*
Yes, I agree with you in this one. Too many booked activities and leaving public only little space, thus it's pretty impossible to swim on weekends. But for me that's one of possible choice due to more flexible opening hours compared to public pools. The rate is pretty expensive too with the new management given the space of the pool public can use.

But since I work irregular hours, I have the luxury to go on weekday on times where the pool is pretty much empty, only occassionally got scuba divers doing lessons on those days.

But the pool I like the most is UM pool but close these days to dont know when.

I remember one time they let a polo game book their deep end, a mat salleh want to do laps, of course cannot until 50m, and plus the other half is also for lessons and scuba. The mat salleh got angry and go out of the pool and ask for his money back. I don't blame him.

From googlemap it seems like only 700m away from bukit jalil lrt station - star lrt or watever they call it.

I still prefer Bukit Jalil.. the best so far..

Sadly Melawati club has gone bust.. otherwise it was also another good one.. near my house.
*
Thanks, I'll try go bukit jalil one day.

i think all swim strokes can help reduce stomach if you engage your core muscle correctly while swimming. but of course the most engaging in core muscle is butterfly. i also cannot do haha

Hi,

Want to ask what brand and where to buy swimming google especially those who had myopia?

Thank you.
*
You can buy normal goggles in most shopping malls, for example if AEON JAYA JUSCO in their swimming sections, plenty of goggles. Or in specific store brand like speedo or arena. there are also sport shop in malls like Royal Sporting House or Sport Direct that has swimming sections. If you want the one with power for myopia, most of them have but perhaps limited choices of power and design. You can ask them to show you.

I am shortsighted too but feel no need of such goggles, as in the water we usually can see clearly due to the refraction. but I usually use contact lense with goggles because I teach and I want to be able to look at people while talking. though there's some risk in wearing lenses in pools if you are not careful.

cheap replacement:

1. buff with baby shampoo one drop on each lense, rub nicely with cloth before taking goggles for a swim.

2. forgot to buff before going to pool, no worries, collect some spit in your mouth and spit once on each lens and rub nicely with fingers. Then rinse once in water.

both methods are good enough for one swim session (because you'd rinse your goggles with tap water after use).

thumbup.gif this! thumbup.gif

save money, no need buy anti fog. I always use shampoo or spit, lol. the spit trick is learnt when taking scuba licence. I don't rub with cloth though, just put some shampoo on and rub with finger. before use in pool rinse them off but not so much that the shampoo layer is gone. repeat as necessary.

how to hold long breath in water ?

never hold long breath alone when you have nobody specific watching over you. you are at risk of of shallow water blackout:

if you are really interested in it, look for freediving courses, get educated in it. have a buddy to train. never ever do it alone!

what is your budget and what do you intend to use it for? if just to use the stopwatch to track your lap time. I just use this one:

http://www.mudah.my/CASIO+STANDARD+AE+1000...ch-42504119.htm

I bring to dive in the sea also no problem.
