Is it necessary to do factory reset before/after installing the new official ICS via Odin?

I have a tab which has never been rooted and i updated it to msia official firmware ics manually (fr honeycomb)
I noticed a few days ago that a small update is available but it doesnt appear in my OTA update. I know i can do it manually but i want to know how to enable the OTA update to work.sorry if this question been asked b4.
