Preferably a codec and format that most DVD players can understand, such as the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 codec in MPEG or AVI file container. wink.gif

AVI file format is acutally a "container". You can use different codecs inside AVI file, that includes MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Indeo, MPEG-4, H.264, XVid, etc. Other well known containers are MKV (Matroska), OGM (Ogg Media) and MOV (Apple QuickTime Movie). icon_idea.gif

Plenty of them (software to convert to different video formats) in fact. Check the tutorials and software recommendations in this section, especially at the pinned threads. wink.gif

No idea, check the manual and see what type of file formats it can play (and try them out in the player yourself). MP4 format is usually for MPEG-4 or H.264/XVid codecs. If you have older players then it may not recognize certain newer variatios of the same codecs (e.g. H.264-Hi10p). Thus if your player supports MP4 but does not play every MP4 file, then you may need to update the player's firmware. Thus usually older MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are much more compatible with older players. Likewise MPG, MP1, MP2 and VOB file formats are for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 codecs. hmm.gif

What's the model of your DVD player?

I've got myself a couple of DVD players with USB support as well as for video file playback. Haven't encountered any problems with AVI and MP4 files.

MKV and RMVB files don't work though.
