it is by design that they only let you equip 6 skills max. I can't remember, but Diablo II also used the same design, if I recall correctly? (Left/Right mouse button + Shift/Alt/Ctrl-modifiers. 1-4 is for pots spamming)

Stats are incremented automatically, don't need to do anything.

Skills are unlocked automatically, the only thing you need to do is to actually decide whether or not you are going to use the skill or not.
