Once you reach inferno jus fully pump dps. No point to wear vit gear cos you gonna kiss the floor with 1 hit anyway.

I tried b4 with 1.1k dex and 900 vit, still 1 hit ko doh.gif
*
You can survive 1 hit in act 1 and act 2 with enough resists/vit, but act 3 onwards u need shadow power for the added reduction if u want to survive any hits at all

Try put some resist and armor in your eq, then you will see some difference.

Right now, I have 16k hp, but can tahan about 2-3 hits before kong. Now killing elites is alot easier (unless those invulerable ones)
*
how much res u have? i dropped from 29k hp to 20k and i feel super squishy, u can tahan 16k, haha

Errmm.. armor 3k, then resist average 230. Basically both armor and resist will reduce dmg by 50% each.

When those khazra impaler poke me, previously was around 11k, then when add some resist, it drop to 8k, now its about 6-7k. Also previously when I let those elites with waller corner me, I will straight piss in my pants. Now can at least tahan few more seconds spam spam skill, occasionally lucky tahan until wall break, can smoke screen and lari. biggrin.gif
Haven't tried tentacles yet, but for now I do my usual caltrops, kite, shoot, kite, spike traps, shoot, smokescreen lari, repeat. Maybe because of my resist, but the reflect dmg for my spike traps is greatly reduced compare to last time.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Oh no wonder, I had only bout 2.2k armor and 160ish res to all when I was in act 3, so even 29k hp also will get oneshotted from time to time, haha

Currently stucked at Inferno Act II lol, all I need is MORE GOLD!  rclxub.gif  to get better gears.

With 200%+ GF with 5 stacks of NV buff, I can farm gold at Hell Act 3 Siegebreaker quest more than 100k+ per hour lol.

Anyway guys, I have a question before making the right decision, is it necessary to have all resistance for my gears in order to survive?  hmm.gif
*
You technically don't need it, it wont help unless u stack alot which will result in
A. expensive (if you get dex/vit/res gear)
B. drops ur dps too much (stack vit/res gear)

Glass cannon works all the way, but stressful cuz u cant take a single hit

Hmm just started play ma brother's DH.
Can I get further info from sifu here as my fren ask me pump dex all the way.
Currently in Nightmare hmm but in my knowledge I think need some vit and resists, correct me if I am wrong.
*
U can pump vit/resists, but at an entry lvl it won't work, vit/resist is only if you can afford equipment that has dex/vit/res and costs few million a pop, not cost effective since the amount u need scales exponentially as u progress across acts. Just go glass cannon and farm first if you need to.

Kekeke ok
hmm so dex, att speed and crit?
Cause i remember i read somewhere mention that if you crit > 100% should use xxx bow and crit < 100% should use a different bow?
Any1 can verify this? I know there is passive talent give different bonus to different bow.
*
there's a long thread in the DH forums bout this, but TLDR is you should use a bow all the time IF you have an equal dps bow and xbow.
Else go with whatever loot u get which is better.

Never had been this discouraged in a game before lol

I cant beat Inferno Act 2 Elites mostly and will get one shotted most of the time.

Hopefully a pro can guide me as I just seem to be not quite up for Inferno Act 2.

Level 60 now , I have 3K armour , 20K life , 32K DPS and All Resists at about 55%.
Sockets everything with Square Emeralds mostly.

I join a public game yesterday and was shooed away due to my bad gear sad.gif

Would really love to be a better DH , if anyone could give some advise especially those who have complete Inferno using DH solo or co-op

I know Bnet forums have a thread there but there was way too much maths in it and Its taking a lot of my brain cells lol.

Advise please? Thanks

What're ur skillsets like? Its more a matter of how well u adapt to kiting.
stuff like clearing the map for kiting, and good stutterstepping helps alot

Oh well my skill set is ;

Left click - Grenades - Stun Grenades
Right click - Rain of Vengeance (Stun beasts)

1) Shadow Power - Shadow Glide
2) Preparation - Focused Mind
3) Caltrop - Jagged Edges
4) Cluster Arrow - Dazzzling Arrow

The focus is to just perma stun the mob/enemy while letting caltrops whittle away the stunned mobs life (Works well so far for Inferno Act 1 despite the same eq)

Shadow power to escape while dropping caltrops to regain life. On tougher opponents , I activate Shadow power and have grenads+ cluster arrow burst heal.

I Chose Preparation - Focused Mind due to the total discipline earned is much more while I lure the mobs and dropping caltrops.

So the whole thing, I lure these mobs to tight places while dropping caltrops to slow + damage until they all group or moving at a group slowly.

Then my standard attack with stun grenades will keep them on the caltrops. Some may escaped being stunned and thats when I use cluster arrow - Dazzling Arrow which will almost guarantee  a stun , if not the next stun grenade wave will stun them anyways.

Against some elites I could hold my ground with ;

Stun grenade,Shadow Power, Cluster Arrow , Caltrops drops which I get bursts of heal quite well but it takes some time

However , I am certain to die when the elites have stats like Mortar,Fast,Teleport,Vampiric. Let me know if youneed further info as thsi method dont seem to work very well sad.gif
I believe kiting is luring the mob into a place where you can group em together/damage them ? Not sure what stutter stepping means lol ( cant access Bnet/game sites too in office sad.gif)
*
Your playstyle is more close quarters if im not wrong? I recall grenades have a very short range, main reason i didnt use them.

For elites like mortar/teleport etc normally I've found the best way to handle them is off-screen kiting, since they will only use those skills if they are on ur screen and visible to u, if they're at the very edge or offscreen mobs wont mortar u or teleport or jail or wall, making life 100x easier when kiting.
Er, your definition of kiting isnt exactly what I'd expect, I'd say it's more on constant movement to keep distance i.e. offscreen whilst whittling down their hp. Stutterstepping is basically where u move shoot move shoot at a fast pace, where u move during the atkspd animation delay of ur attack, instead of completely stopping and dpsing full time.
I use the cookie cutter build of HA/DA & NT which is more suited for long ranged kiting, which makes life alot easier if you're not geared enough to burn things down if they manage to reach u.

Which areas are u having problems advancing through? Specific elite packs or bosses?

Tru dat , mostly close quarters but i maintain them that way close but cant touch me (if they can be stunned that is lol)

Reading your definition of stutterstepping made me realize thats what i was doing previously but anotherbuild involving bola shots lol but because its too tiring to play that way for me so I dint use that playstyle.

For offscreen kiting , mostly you be using hungering arrow? Since its quite difficult to put the crosshair on the target?

Anyways when you explain stutterstepping perhaps the animation of dude throwing grenades could be cut by me slotting in a low hatred skill like screaming skull smile.gif

So whats your Battletag? perhaps we can play together sometime smile.gif
*
I alternate between NT and Hungering Arrow when stutterstep kiting, that and a caltrops every half screen distance means i kill packs before my discipline runs out most the time, unless it's stuff like Extra Health or I run out of kiting room. Don't click the target, just shift + click to fire in the general direction, HA and NT have some room for error but takes some practice.

Can't rmb my Battletag atm, in office, drop me a pm with yours and I'll add u up when I get back?

Hmm thats what a few DH told me too.

I wonder if there's any benefit at all in using 2x 1H x bow besides looking awesome? lol
*
Mostly it's 2H Xbows or Bows, cuz when you use 1H Xbows, ur atk alternates between the 2 weapons so if there's a huge disparity in the damage, ur dps will drop.
At entry lvl 1h xbows it isnt worth it cause you will need good stats and socket on the xbow to break even, which will often cost u an arm and a leg, whereas a good quiver off the AH which gives 15% atkspd bonus (same as DW bonus) costs u just a fraction of that.
It's more common for builds highly based on crit and using stuff like HA with the final rune which relies on critting alot for aoe dmg.
That and the extra discipline u can get off 1H xbows that arent available on 2h Xbows and Bows.

They are equal now as it's already calculated in.
But with Atkspd nerf with 1.0.3 coming, dump the one with IAS and go with the one with dmg

*
Someone was asking the same thing on D3 blizz forums, TLDR answer is no, it wont hit the primary mob

i use to run a xbow with +500 LOH, it counts for nothing when mobs on inferno reflects me to death. so just for reflect mobs i run shadow power. and i switched to a xbow with higher dps.
*
500 isn't enough, u can buy some cheap LoH Rings and amulets off AH for <500k total and swap those in, makes reflect mobs EZPZ and u save a skill slot.
Then just use SS when you need to nuke with hatred dump to shrug off the burst dmg~

Well, I'd say if you're using it you're more concerned bout the aoe dmg which is what it's for, else DA is always the better dps choice~ haha

hrm. was comparing 2hand crossbow and 2hand crossbow.

that's why I'm puzzled. cos in Monk, no matter what I highlight also I see the stats reflected.

anyway this was just a one case thing. Still clueless.
*
Hi, this is an issue with the quiver not being factored into the dps calculations, it's a bug that was being discussed on the DH forums, apparently they're not taking into account ur quiver when doing the comparisons, hence the disparities.

QUOTE(Shadow Kun @ Jun 26 2012, 02:26 PM)
yea main reason is for the aoe but was wondering if it's good against single target as well. i wonder about it since i think i saw double yelow numbers on one enemy once yesterday. DA is good but it depends on pierce to proc which is fixed value.
*
I think i saw some number crunching threads where they were saying at 30% crit it's roughly 86% more dmg for single target, though off the top of my head I can't remember what the % increase was if you use DA instead.

oh ok. another Q.

in other characters, say a monk. A 2-handed weapon will occupy both hands.

On a DH - 2-hand crossbow doesn't take up both hand space, so there's still space for quiver.

So in the case you mentioned, does it mean the quiver, though on the body, is not counted?
*
Technically it occupies both hand spaces, cause you can't use a shield with a xbow or bow, but u can if it's a 1H xbow.
Quiver is an exception to the rule, where it's allowed no matter what.

What I mentioned is blizz messed up the comparison where they calculated ur dps as it is without the quiver, though the actual dps u are looking at *before* is with it, that's why you're getting that problem.

To make it easy, just unequip your quiver before doing comparison, then it will be accurate, or use a spreadsheet also works.

i dun understand. what are you talking about? the piercing chance of hungering arrow? the damage increase of devouring arrow with each successful pierce? the amount of damage increase when you crit? the amount of spray of teeth damage?

for piercing chance of hungering arrow and damage increase of DA (devouring arrow rite?) for each pierce they are both fixed at 35% chance and 70% damage increase per pierce respectively. they are not tied to crit chance in any way.

and if you are talking about damage increase of a critical hit they are no fixed value and is dependant on gear and some skills (?) to increase it with the base value being +50% damage.

for spray of teeth the damage value is fixed at 50% of the initial hit.

sorry but i really pening lolz
*
It's alot of mathcraft where they calculate the overall dps increase when

1. you use SoT, which is the 50% extra when u crit, easy enough, calculation is based on assumption of 30% crit chance most the time so they can calculate an average median of times when you proc SoT to calculate the dps increase.

2. you use DA, which is where the number crunching is, because the pierce itself has a chance to trigger another pierce for another extra 70% and so on.
So it's not actually a flat 35% chance for 70%, but more than that due to extra pierces, and they also factor in if the pierce crits or does not crit etc.

It's a giant wall of mathcraft that I dont think you want to read through, haha.

TLDR - HA always better for 1 - 2 targets,
SOT better for AoE situations but will always lose in single target dept.

Math is all done assuming 30% crit chance iirc, anything lower and it's not worth using SoT

Decided to ditch Sharpshooter and replace with Night Stalker for the proc% of recovering Discipline. Managed to survive and farm Act 3 rather comfortably, with few deaths to stupid affixes (Especially Hulking Phasebeast, having serious problem with those packs).

Wtf 86.7% crit rate to use SoT, lol.

How's the Night Stalker proc? I heard it's not very fantastic.

lolz ok ok i get it. im not really interested in the overall damage increase between using DA or SoT or anything. just wanna know if SoT hits the initial target or not. i get it that DA is better in 1 vs 1 situation but what i want to know is whether SoT is utterly useless in 1 vs 1 or not.

hates math. ugh.
*
Spray of Teeth: AOE is WORSE THAN BOLA SHOT ~176.9% single-target damage on average, and ~76.9% AOE damage on average, BUT ONLY ON CRITS; only use for single-target if crit rate >86.7%

^ From the thread, haha
