Just wondering, anyone playing Melee build wizard?

I just lvled a Wizard to lv60 yesterday . Tried melee build quite successful in act1 inferno so far.
Can facetank most elites with no prob except anything with Nightmare fear buff.

Should i continue and invest on Wizard tank gear or play the conventional old run and kite wizard?

Is it just me or what?

Seems like every single wizard out there is switching specs to Critical Mass tanking build.

Every wizard in my friend's list is playing that build.
Considering how expensive repair bills cost, tanky build seems like the way to go to avoid unnecessary deaths.

I got a bad feeling that they gonna nerf Critical Mass badly.
Probably implement something like "Critical Mass can only proc every 0.5-1s, cannot proc multiple times within a short period of time"

Currently, i just stand there and tank shit on molten and stuff lika a BOSS in act 3 and the whole game just revolves around how fast you can spam 234234234234234234234 with unlimited AP and without lagging out.

I was testing
You know people always say Tank spec sucks in farming etc, well they are WRONG.

I discovered that Storm Armor (Storm aspect rune/last rune that zap nearby enemies everytime you crit) is really OP.
Since most tank build is based on high crit chance to proc Critical Mass, the storm armor will zap like a machine gun when you spam twister.

You just stand in the middle of the crowd spam Wicked Wind twister like mad and see all the lightning sparks fly everywhere and zap things like mad.

Its like Barbarian's earthquake on steroids.

Well, it only works in Act 1 and 2 Inferno though. Act 3 barely coz everything hits like a truck without Prismatic on.

Ps: Oh wait, you need high armor resist to drop Prismatic Armor for this build. (when you can clear Act 1 and 2 comfortably)

Really cool build to share.

Build Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI8oC5bNmbo

My personal skills.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wiza...;XgW!YccYaY

Summary, build is the opposite of kiting, instead it's a CC based build that's dependant on 2 Skills (Wicked Wind and Frost Nova), 1 Perk (Critical mass), Crit % / Crit DMG, and AP Regen.

If you have geared your wizard toward this, then this build is for you. Fair warning:
DO NOT ATTEMPT if you don't have
>20 crit %
>15 ap regen.
You will die. You have been warned.

Personal stats: 38k hp, 34k dps, 33% crit, 202% crit dmg, 19 ap/crit, 1034 life per second. (All resist >150-250)

Weapon: 907 dps wand w/ 2.9% life steal

Tested 2 days, difference between kiting: 15-25 mins (farming act 2 inferno, All packs in Archive -> Belial). Higher Death rate (still not really used to it yet).

Why life steal? Cause of scalability as it procs off each mob, Life on Hit is max regardless of mobs. So to mitigate dmg, Diamond Skin will proc of CM (makes you darn close to invuln, i have no resists so DS mitigates enough dmg for me to regen).

This is the most fun I've had in D3 yet. smile.gif

Pros:
- Close to perm freeze
- Close to invuln
- No need to run back and forth the entire map. (You guys know what im talking about, right.. right??)
- FREAKING FUN.

Cons:
- Higher death % if you don't know what you're doing
- North of 100m on gear.
*
Higher death rate? No wonder you are dying so much.

Dude you are doing it wrong man...REALLY REALLY WRONG.
1st of all, Life Steal only gains 20% effect in Inferno. 2.9% x 0.2=0.58%

2nd thing, Life on Hit does procs off from multiple mobs but it is limited by its co-efficient depending on the skill. But the nett gain is waaay waayy higher than Inferno Life Steal. (Lazy to explain the maths here, google yourself)

3rd thing, You are technically standing in melee range most of the time, WHERE THE HELL IS THE "BLUR" PASSIVE?!

4th thing, Since you are standing in melee range for nova most of the time, expect to face a lot of dmg from molten/plagued/desecration etc. Force Armor DOES NOT save you from any of this damage since this dmg is done per tick.
It is PRISMATIC ARMOR you are looking for.

5th thing, ASTRAL PRESENCE? Really? You are already having close to infinite AP from crits from Energy Twister and Chain Reaction explosive blast. Having Astral Presence is redundant.

6th thing, As i mentioned earlier, this is essentially a tank build. (Since you are standing close range). You need more than 150-250 resist to survive. 500 is bare minimum.

1 thing i need to add about this build is knowing which skills trigger casting animation and global cooldown,
That split second can mean life and death for this build.
Don't simply spam Frost Nova as you like. (especially when you are moving around or mobs are moving around, making critical mass hard to proc off from twister) Wait for mid attack animation and interrupt attacks.

yup exactly, tats where i dun understand

even if i use force weapon my dps only goes up to 20k+  yawn.gif

Those people can achieve crazy high numbers because of Crit% and Crit damage.
Crit damage really inflates your dps like crazy. (Provided you have decent crit%)

I have seen a lot of ppl stacking Int like mad and yet dps is below 20k.
When you check their total crit dmg is less than 100% doh.gif

The thing about Chain Reaction is it stacks and it has zero casting animation/time.

You can 2-3 Chain Reactions going off at the same time. (That is a total of 3x3=9 explosions going off within 1.5sec)

One thing i dont like using Chain Reaction is it limits your playing style to melee range. You will have big trouble facing mobs like champion Wasp Packs, champion packs with Fire Chains etc.

I prefer to use the Critical Mass build with Venom Hydra as backup.
You can kite problematic champion packs with bad affixes with Venom Hydra.
Just max range frost nova the mobs and spam twisters while running around the hydra.
Its basically like the old Hydra/Blizzard spec. Just that this "blizzard" doesn't slow lol.

160 too little.

time to get more AR gear at AH
*
160?! How is that even possible?
10 int = 1 AR.
A wizard with pure int/vit gear with no AR at all will get you more than 160 AR.

Life-regen is important for Melee Wizards.

Sometimes, you don't gain enough life from LOH because the mobs like to run away from twisters and diamond skin couldnt refresh fast enough because of shielding etc.

You need to rely life-regen to survive.

By the way, Force armor is UTTER CRAP.
It will not save your ass, the tooltip is wrong.
Prismatic Armor>Everything else in survivability

There is no aggro table in Diablo 3.
They just hit whoever they like. (most likely the closest one).

Barbarians can sort of draw aggro using their shout (cant remember which rune)

Still ok la.

All you need is even higher crit chance. tongue.gif

But tbh, melee wiz easily the most OP class right now. it deserved to be nerfed.
Lets be honest to yourselves, you know its OP and you know it will get nerfed soon.
