Barbarians are savage wanderers who never flinch from close-quarters combat. Mighty ground stomps, leaping attacks and dual-wielded slashes leave a barbarian’s enemies dead in their boots and send any survivors fleeing for cover.

Thanks to their size and strength, barbarians can dominate a melee with nearly any combination of weapon and approach, though they tend towards massive and imposing weaponry. Barbarians are no strangers to the pains of battle, and often fare better in the midst of several opponents, taking and giving cuts, than when attempting to chase down single targets.

Barbarians’ attacks are primarily melee focused. Their quick weapon swings whittle down the number of weaker foes in seconds, while their slower, ground-shaking slams and stomps can send approaching hordes reeling and crack the armor of mightier foes.

Currently level 23 barbarian, this is currently the leveling build I am using

AOE Build - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...33;Za!aZaaa

Open with Leap (Iron Impact rune is awesome, it turns you into a tank for a couple of seconds), followed by Ground Stomp, Rend, and Cleave. Reapply Rend when it expires.
Lay down an Earthquake for maximum dps (for runes, I'd recommend Chilling Earth or The Mountain's Call)

Single Target Build - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...33;Za!aZaaa

Bash with Clobber rune is amazing on boss fights, if you time your ground stomp and bash stuns right, you can basically stunlock the boss biggrin.gif

I see your spec. I use a similar one.

1. Ground stomp, i use Wrenching smash, so that i get to pull all them suckas into my rend range.
2. For the Rend, i use the Bloodlust rune instead of the ravage rune, since with bloodlust i gain lots of healing.(btw what is normal range of rend and revenge? both have similar graphic.)
3. Threatening shout with Intimidate rune to slow down and kite them.
4. bread and butter cleave with reaping swing to gain as much fury as possible.
5. Revenge with vengence is mine to gain health and fury at the same time, so if you get hit, you basically have self heal and fury to dps moar.
It is very nice to use this spec when fighting boss that summons extra adds which drops health pots when they die. Can fight the Magada after i tried many times. Of course the Ground stomp timing is very important. Battle shout, rend then pew with cleave couple times before running off.
*
Now at level 31, I am using an almost similar build but with minor changes

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...;ZdV!aZabaa

1) Ground Stomp with Trembling Stomp rune for extra damage
2) Call of the Ancients is good to take some aggro off you, and the ancients themselves do really decent damage
3) Also now, for single target fights, I use Frenzy with Triumph rune

Is there any easy way to switch between your build, say from AOE build to single target stun build?

My biggest gripe in the game. They made everything simple except swapping between builds ROFL

My Blood Bard tanker .

Suitable for Solo and Group play. Bashing faces in Nightmare without even the need to pop red potion.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...;dXb!ZZbcbY

Can tank thru Nightmare with ease. Damage is decent but cant compare to pure DPS build.

Survivability is exceptional. Extremely high HP with Vit gears, so much healing, healing and more healing.

Feel free to switch Frenzy out for Cleave in certain situations.

Saw this build in D3 forums. tongue.gif How much is your HP and damage reduction?

You must be a sword and board barb.

Currently, I am a dual wielding barb with 2.5k hp, 40% reduction and 260 dps.

wut is ur barb level?

seems like barbs have no problem facing off belial while monks tend to kena one shot if health not enough.

Level 31. I love my barb wub.gif

No lah, barbarians focus on reducing damage from hits, while monks focus on not getting hit.

QUOTE
do u guys think dual wield dps warrior can survive at inferno?
at this current rate.. i think warrior only make to tank at end game...

Possible if you can outheal the damage, which I think barbs are very capable of doing.

Whirlwind is just bad, high fury cost, low damage.
I prefer rend over whirlwind.

guys, advice for skill usage for nightmare? i'm using bash with stun rune. i love cleave and frenzy but they're just not good enough for killing those long hp mobs. sweat.gif

and advise for passive skills plz. lvl 40. i've got 1.2k dps with 9k hp. i dunno how my fren get higher dps (1.5k) with 11k hp, but he same lvl with me.
*
For barbarians, I can only recommend this build. This build is flexible for 1h, 2h and 1h+shield

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...;XdZ!ZZbbaZ

Active Skills

Frenzy + Triumph = Every mob you kill gives you 8% max hp back over 6 seconds, it's something like 300-400 every second for me and this stacks. You can substitute this with Cleave with Broad Sweep

Rend + Bloodlust = You get 3% max hp back per tick of Rend, and this also stacks. The more mobs you have rend on, the more hp you get back

Warcry + Invigorate = HP regen while kiting is awesome. I am getting like 600+ hp regen per second and I get healed to full after a few seconds of kiting

Ignore Pain + Ignorance is Bliss = 20% of your damage dealt will be converted to hp. Always use this when you know that you are going to go against hard hitting mobs.

Revenge + Revenge is Mine = 5/8% max hp back per mob that you hit with . You can substitute with Provocation rune so that your revenge will always be up.

Wrath of the Berserker + Insanity = I always use this to take out magic/rare groups within seconds. Combo this with Ignore Pain, basically you can't die

Passive Skills

Inspiring Presence - Very good with Warcry + Invigorate, and you will get double the hp regen while kiting

Bloodthirst - 3% of damage dealt will be converted to hp. Self-explanatory

Ruthless - 5% crit chance, 50% more crit damage, you can swap this out for either Tough As Nails or Nerves of Steel for added survivability

Hope this helps flex.gif

Just started Act 2. Level 55. Stats, I will post later. Now at office.  tongue.gif

Yeah man the elites are a pain the arse. But you have to kite them. Cannot just charge in and hope can tank all the damage. Skills are half the battle. You need alot of resistance items if you want to hold it off.

Can try this build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barb...;UbV!cabccZ

I am disappoint. The barbarians in D3 are like sissies, running around kiting instead of being the true brawler they were born to be.

Well sometimes you just need to play smart. If the poision aoe is around or the arcane laser is there. You have to kite abit to avoid dying. Its not like hit abit run hit abit run.
*
Those are avoidable damage. What about damage you cant avoid? The game was not built to be melee friendly. Imagine if you faced a group of berserkers, desert wasps, swift skull cleavers, colossal golgors or mallet lords. Even with high damage reduction, 1 of them is already tough, as they tend to one shot you, what more a group of them tongue.gif

Don't blame it on players, blame it on poor design.

dude. its play smart.
join a public game and go tank one of those champions or elites, you can literally feel the rape.
Especially the arcane and illusion monsters.
new definition of tanking in nightmare onwards is to take hits so others can run/heal.
*
Sounds very WoW-ish to me. And Blizz denied that they made a WoW clone. Instead of classes that are self-sufficient, we get tank, healer and dps classes. Great job blizz /sarcasm

Yeah it seems tough right now. I don't disagree. But the game can be rebalanced. Its not the end of the world. The game has only been out for 1 week. There will be a way to beat it, we just don't know it yet. Until then, deal with it. Nobody said Hell/Inferno is gonna be easy, it isnt easy for the range either. Vortex the range and they're dead?

Well, I play a wizard atm, and I find ranged classes have a much easier time in later difficulties. Vortex/mortar/wall/jailer can be outranged. You cannot avoid melee hits that one shot you tongue.gif

Agreed.

If thats the case. They should just make 1 character than can do it all. Would it be better then?
*
That's the point. You can either solo OR you can coop. Classes in D3 has to be all rounded so they can solo content on their own if they choose to. Not being forced to coop because your class cant solo.

Blizzard already said you can solo the game. Don't let one death in the game stop you. You died and then don't just give up. Change up your skills. Get better items or get different items. Find another tactic. I literally changed my tactic so many times throughout Nightmare and Inferno. I will accept your statement once you have exhausted all the possible ways to adjust your character. Go Google or YouTube barbarians who are actually surviving inferno.
*
It's not about dying. It's about making a class that fits what was advertised. I was absolutely in love with the barbarian spotlight, jumping into dozens of enemies and inflicting wanton chaos. You must be able to do this with any spec, be it 1h, 2h or 1h + shield, with talents in place to compensate for either loss of defense or dps

Of course, it's unrealistic to assume you can do the same at later difficulty levels. But, if you can't even go toe to toe with at least two mobs at the same time with a class that prides itself in melee combat superiority, with the right spec & equipment, then it's just broken design nod.gif
