hey guys, I hit 60 yesterday on my monk and bought some gear from AH using USD i got from buying and selling on the RMAH (cos I'm gold broke). As mentioned in another thread I'm not looking for the best gear but looking to survive Inferno as I went glass cannon on my first toon, witch doctor, which got nerfed to oblivion.

I'm hoping to get around 25k dps, 9k armor, 1k resist, 1k LoH (can clear inferno act 3 and 4 with those stats?). As you can see below I've listed the gear that I've bought (pls note numbers are rounded up cos I can't rember the exact numbers). Slots that are left empty means I haven't bought for that slot and using the gear i lvl-ed with. Any comments or advice for me?

Helm ($10) – 115 Dex, armor, 8% crippling dmg, 101 resist, 4.5% crit chance

Shoulders
Hands ($13) – 125 dex, +armor, 50 resist, 4.5% crit chance, 30% crit dmg

Pants ($8) – 111 Dex, 500 armor, vit, 111 resist
Ring
Ring
Boots ($5) - 140 dex, 132 Resist, 350 armor
Weapon ($85) – 860dps, 166 dex, 11% ASI, 651 LOH
Offhand (boss drop, looking to replace) – 960 armor, 16% block, 80 dex, 30 resist, 40 vit

My current stats are as follows:
17.5k dps
7k+ armor
700+ resist
651 LoH

yaloh as I said i'm gold broke... what to do...

i made the USD out buying and selling on RMAH mah ($0 investment)... don't really feel like linking paypal to bliz and also dunno what to do if convert to bliz credits so mah spend on getting some gear loh...

eh... the gear that i look for quite specific leh... i don't cincai buy you know... these are the best buys that I can get. Other gear up on the RMAH all 20 bucks and above and not as good as the ones i bought.

aiseh like that you all buy from GAH and sell to me in RMAH lah... (pm me first k) My budget is $15 and below per piece.

I want chest piece and shoulders with the following stats:
poison resist + all resist that is equal to 100+ resist; dex above 100; +armor; vitality 70+

Amulet and rings with the following stats:
poison resist + all resist that is equal to 100+ resist; dex above 100; +armor; vitality 70+

or

Dex above 100; ASI; Crit Chance; Crit Dmg; LoH 500+

I chose poison cos I frequent diablo 3 Trading and monk forum a lot and not many ppl buying selling poison+all resist so I decided to go with it. Plus the shield that I'm using which dropped from a boss had poison and all resist albeit kinda low values but i thought i can use it until i get all my other gear then change it.

yeah if i can get solid chest and shoulders I think i'll probably go dps amulet and rings.

Wokay so here's an update on my gear and my progress over the weekend.

Using this gear I solo-ed from Act 1 to Act 3 (killed Ghom, on the way to Siegebreaker). For major bosses (with enrage timers) I switch out my shield for another weapon (834 dps, 550 LoH) and spec dps. I'm a bit disappointed that I still die to some elite packs in Act 3 especially the bloody ones with Molten+vortex (takes awhile to kite and kill). Also to note that Act 1 and 2 were pretty easy and I even used duel wield to clear most of it. I think I need to get more dps though and the only way I can think of is to buy a new weapon 1k+ dps, 250 dex, crit dmg 90% + crit dmg 70%(socket). haha i can dream right.

yeah which actually makes it hard for ppl to party in inferno. if the guy in your party is not geared enough then u have to carry the fella and hope you can meet the dps to beat elite/boss enrage.

Check out the video for some techniques that Kripp uses on his budget barb to kill those arse hurting elites. This is useful for 90% of the player population as not all of us have thousands of dollars worth of gear and can sit there and just whack without dying.

Yeah I agree with MoE (Backlash). So uber especially if u have high dodge. My dodge around 48% bomb those suckers to smitherins! Of course that is if you can afford to sacrifice 20% armor given by Hard Armor.

BTW which sweeping wind rune does the most dmg? I kinda like the fire one which also increases radius.

gratz! It's like that lah. welcome to World of Monks (WoM, new MMORPG?!?!?!) where it's fun to walk into huge mobs and watch them die when they try to hit u.

I think u can also benefit from a shield that has high block percentage like around 27%.

the thing that I found with LoH is that you have to stand there and whack the elite or champions to get back health but in Act 3 elite or champion mobs nearly always have molten or plague or desecrator and they take turns casting it (ie if all of them are aggro-ed you can't stay in one spot for more than 2-3 seconds). so if u want to kite u're gonna take hits and if u want to survive hits u should have shield to increase armor and be able to block.

my suggestion is to give it a go with ur dual wield and if u see u cannot kill even when u kite then it's time to look into getting a shield.

my AR about 850 cannot stand in Act 3/4 desecrator or molten for more than 2.5 secs Those are the only things killing me (I'm getting pretty good at avoiding the STUPIDDDD arcane sentries. I can still kill all elites/champions (using Kripp's techniques) except for invulnerable minions+molten/arcane/desecrator.

Maybe i'll try using time of need and push it up to 1.1k AR to see if I can survive better.

yeah btw what's ur repair bill like for Red armor? Mine is 49k

the basic one which is to trap the elites/champions at the doorway and the one that separates the elites so that can kill one at a time.
