Never bothered much about armor and resistance. My resist is around 700 and armor around 6k+ with 40k+ HP. Rather spend what I have to increase my DPS instead of thinking about defensive stats now that they make it so freaking easy to farm act3 and 4 after 1.03.
True, except +cri dmg, %, IAS stuff is freaking expensive... i m trying hard to increase my damn 23k DPS...
but then, what i can understand from the chart is that the higher your armor/resist, the greater the dmg reduction (duh!).
so why emphasize so much on the 10:1 sweet spot?
Damage Reduction (DR) is calculated like this:
Armor DR (ADR) = Armor / (50 × Monster Level + Armor) Resist DR (RDR) = Resistance / (5 × Monster Level + Resistance) Total DR = 1 - ((1 - DR from Armor) × (1 - DR from Resistance) × (1 - other DR))
In short, like what I said in my previous post:
simply put, if your resist = 800, armor = 8000. that is optimal. if your resist = 800, and armor is just 6000. getting 10 more armor is better than 1 resist. so, you should pump more armor. on the other hand, if armor = 8000, resist = 600. getting 1 points resist > 10 points armor.
I actually had to create a mini-program to somewhat understand ur post.
So lets just take ur example of 8000 Armor + 800 Resist. [attachmentid=2928999] Based on the calculation, the dmg reduction is 92.56% from level 60 mobs.
To get the same dmg reduction for 600 Resist, one needs 10440 Armor. Which is +2440 Armor and -200 from the previous calculation. [attachmentid=2929001]
And likewise, 1044 resist is needed to get the same dmg reduction for a person who has 6k armor. Which is -2k Armor and +244 Resist from the first calculation. [attachmentid=2929005]
So what ur trying to say is, that it is much more cost-effective to maintain a 10:1 ratio? Ammarite?
If so, there's another problem to this theory: the goods in AH aren't exactly priced in favor to that ratio.
Sometimes the best goods within our budget may throw our beautiful ratio off the scale, but then the good itself is nonetheless a buff (lets just say, for example, the item we had an eye on adds to the overall resist but doesn't buff nor reduce armor). Wouldn't it be better to go for that good rather than ignoring it instead?
Excel can do most of this calculation pretty easily. Your proggie is correct. The ratio is not meant for cost-effectiveness. Getting 1:10 give your best damage reduction, but does not take budget into consideration. So yes. Even if you have plenty resist, if an item give you even more resist at low price, grap it. With that, now that you know you low on armor, try to compensate that with Skill such as Keen Eye.
After more than 1 month of playing... finally defeated Inferno's Diablo... slow, ya. But totally worth it.
Still have troubles with some elites, but managed to slowly move my way to Diablo in Act 4.
Nothing fancy in my build, no Life on Hit at all. No massive critical. No super duper expensive item. Just plain poison+all resist, stock up to 800++. Rely on Keen Eye to bring armor up to 9k. For solo in Act4, I uses Mantra of Evasion with 20% armor. So, my damage reduction is quite high. My HP is just 25k. Favorite passive is Trancendance. Spam Mantra to keep HP up. Fun. Weapon = 1k fist weapon, DPS=23k.

the last i check, Cold Resist + All resist are slightly cheaper. avoid physical resist, it's most expensive due to barbarian also wants it.
i m using Poison+All Resist. In fact, many people I know use this too.
The way I do it, I have been monitoring the AH for a loooong time while farming for gold. Get 1 piece at a time when the price is right.
i think the cheapest way to complete Inferno with monk is to stock up Resistances with OWE. then, compliments your lack of armor using Keen Eye and/or Evasion+20% more armor. You can pump up to close to 900 resist and 1k armor with these kind of setup. With that amount of DR, even Act 4 is do-able. White mob wont be able to kill you anymore (dont get surrounded). You will still have to kite with some elites to narrow entrance, etc, and you will still dies, but it's definitely able to complete Inferno.
Hopefully you get 20k DPS without buff if not killing takes a lot of time...
Ya I'm slowly gearing towards that direction. Up to this moment, I can faceroll act 1 with high crits, 700 LoH. But Act 2, I die like a dog. Looks like I need to ditch my high crits...
NO! i dont recommend it! I only recommend stock up resist and armor as a cheaper alternative. If you already with high crits and LoH (both are expensive BTW), i see no reason to turn back!
i think i died like 50 times while trying ghom (stupid 103 patch)... then, i engaged professional service from flix. it was great to see him in action too.
then, after killing Diablo Inferno, i re-visit ghom... for some revenge... here is my video of me killing him solo ... sweet revenge
still, my 24k DPS is considerably slow since I rely on Keen Eye, so, took me slightly above 4 minutes. I think just before he dies, he gone crazy non-stop farting (enraged time-out?), i had to use Serenity to put him down...

kite better, use deadly reach to boost armor more etc.
anyways! yay can finally play with 2hander! 27k unbuffed, 51k buffed.
just got around 500 all resist for my dmg gear from consolidation with tank gears
Nice! I am working on improving my DPS too

nope.. juz like Quazacolt said... didt even go to RMAH .. LoL just spend on the game RM190...
not buying gold too. but i go to RMAH a lot, managed to get some cash out of the game. i should have more gold than 10mil (all hard earn farming in nightmare) if i m not selling some stuff for real cash
With my current 25k HP, 880 resist, 6k armor, no LoH and Crit, farming in Act3 is slow and my monk is not awesome... so, I am now farming in Act2, there is still 9.3% chance of getting good item. Most importantly, my monk still awesome to play in this act.
Here is a bunch of videos I taking out Elites after 5 stack NV. Enjoy!
