Liverpool was somewhat in disarray just prior to KD's appointment as caretaker manager. He managed to pull everyone together and got the club back on stable ground, mostly due to his legendary status and his passion for the Reds.

By doing that, he's done more than any manager could have done in those 16 months. For that, all LFC supporters should be grateful to KD.

Although I'm disappointed that KD was not given more time, I can understand FSG's action. They've invested alot of money and they are here for the long haul, and they want success ... which is what all LFC supporters want also.

Now they want someone who can and will lead the club for 5 years or more, which again shows their own commitment. I just hope that the right person can be brought in.

Got a feeling that their decision to let KD go is because their prospective director of football wants to work with someone else.

FSG is still in the frame of getting Johan Cruyff as director of football, right? If this talk (which begun after Comolli left) becomes reality, we may be getting another non-British manager at LFC again.

I don't think it will be Guardiola or Ancelotti, and I think more reliable news will trickle in by this weekend. I expect the new appointment to be made within May, judging by how quickly (or impatiently) FSG moves.

(Cruyff) didn't appear keen and recommended someone else in his stead.
Too bad then ... we didn't have such a position before Comolli was appointed anyway.

.. would they be willing to take the hotseat knowing they will only be given an average sized budget to build a squad? The reason Martinez seems to be the flavour of the month is because he is a manager who works with small budgets.
If that's the only reason for their purported interest in Martinez, then that's inconsistent of FSG. However, I think
they like Martinez because he could somehow marshall his team to survival despite the obvious financial constraints - slightly differentl

Call me crazy but since he isn't getting much playing time, I reckon Carra would make a good no.2. Would do him well to be a student of a top boss to earn his stripes as well... Not too far fetched considering Sami did the same thing.

If we are getting a non-British manager, Carra will most unlikely be no.2 because of difficulty in communication - the scouse accent is terrible and Carra's is very heavy! - Sammy Lee didn't seem to have performed well as a coach either at Bolton or Liverpool. However, Phil Thompson did a great job as Houllier's assistant.

Wow.. the suspense is building ..

I'm neither for or against AVB as a prospective manager for the Reds. However, he is so young and a relative unknown. It is his own mistake to have taken the job at Stamford Bridge straight after his success at Porto. A stint in Spain or Italy managing a top 5 club could have helped him on his career path. Then again, who can resist the crazy money!

In fact, even experienced managers who still take on Roman's job are probably tempted by how much they can potentially make.

Roman is a juvenile, albeit a very rich one, who is playing a game in his own world!

From what we have seen, these FSG people are much better than the previous yankees in terms of their authenticity as businessmen and their financial resources.

Unfortunately they are still yankees. Americans are generally so full of hype and many of them still have the mindset that they know best.

Well, they appointed KD as interim manager - that's fine. Then they (through their expert managerial skills etc.) gave KD a 3 year contract - that's great. Then they fired him after one contractual year - that's strange. Then they said they wanted someone who'd stay around for 5 years - that's puzzling. Then they go around inviting people to come for an interview (and along the way, got a "whack" on their faces from Mr Rodgers!) - and that's embarrassing!

Yanks - do they really know how to go about doing things?! They should hire a team of Malaysian/Singaporean consultants to manage their business! No wonder the American economy is in such a pathetic state!

Come on...on the one hand you get your man to tell the world that Liverpool's way is 'the quiet (behind the door) way'. That sounds like they've been working ever so hard behind the scene and have a great manager lined up already plus a DOF, DOC etc.. before they fired the whole bunch. One would even be forgiven for wondering whether Guardiola's resignation from Barca and KD's being fired is rather coincidental (wow!)

Pathetic yanks ... hah..even the Mancs are not spared!

Still no confirmation on the official website. Guess they must still be negotiating the compensation to Swansea.

Good move? Yet to be seen - the uncertainty is how he will relate to the players. Exciting? Will know that after the first month - his rapport with the players, his intentions in the market, who will go and who (if any) will come in.

Interesting? I think it is. He's not inexperienced and yet he is young. He's had spells with big names and clubs. He has both succeeded and failed in the past, but he's done very well at Swansea.

If everything's confirmed and he comes on board, then I would welcome and support him and hope for the best.

So, Brendon Rodgers it officially is! Very interesting appointment.

I believe a few of the older players will be offloaded as Rodgers' style is offensive and for that he needs young legs. Of course I don't see Gerard being discarded anytime soon but Carra will continue to be sidelined because his slowing down alot and that caused him to make alot of mistakes.

My immediate interest is to see what he would do with Aquilani and Cole.

It is going to be an interesting summer .. and I've not even considered the Euros and the Olympics yet! Wow!

i think FSG want to create a great manager, like what porto did to mourinho and AVB
instead of going for a big names, with our current situation clearly is not a title challenging side
a mid table club, we are, officially... with our 8th place finish

I'm not sure if creating a great manager is one of FSG's objectives, but I'm sure getting good returns on their investments in a specific time frame definitely is.

There is a worldwide trend towards appointing younger people to CEO positions in all industries. Perhaps it is influenced by what's happened/happening in the IT industry. If this is FSG's philosophy, then that is possibly the reason why they were reluctant to appoint KD as permanent manager earlier on. What irks me is that after finally confirming KD and letting him sign a 3-year contract, they then sack him. KD's 60+ and if they wanted someone younger, they could have given KD a yearly contract until they found their Brendon Rodgers. That would have been kinder to KD and a much more dignified way for our living legend.

I'm still peeved by this. Stupid yankees..no wonder their country is mired in trillion dollars of debt!

His consistent inclusion in the Dutch international squad is testimony to how important a player Dirk Kuyt is.

At one point, I was so frustrated with his first touch and his frequent losing of possession. However, as Rafa persisted with him, everyone could see what an important player he is.

He was friendly, appreciative and approachable too. When he was in KL last July, he led the other players in applauding us for our support. A truly fine christian man who did so much charitable work during his six years with the Reds.

We will miss him. God bless brother!
