What is the best way to install all these custom ROMS without risking bricking?
Flash back to pre-rooted GB, install CF kernel, full-wipe then only flash?

QUOTE(benny888 @ May 15 2012, 10:45 PM) Yes that is safest route. I restored back to my Cassie gb rom n started from there for the recent custom roms based on official ics If I'm already on LPY with CF then I can use Abyss to fullwipe then flash?Started with criskelo. Thereafter subsequent change of roms to others I flash abyss kernel 4.2 n use its recovery to wipe n flash . So far no issues. Every rom I tested thereafter all installed well |

I took a different approach to flashing the latest LPF. I'm kinda lazy to wipe everything (and also not much difference between LPY and LPF) therefore this was what I did with RR ver1 as the base:
1. Install the bootloader using PC Odin. 2. After that flash the LPF CF-Root kernel. Clearing cache and dalvik and after a reboot, everything was working. Apps working without FCs, root retained etc. Initial observation is the good responsiveness as what was feedback by some in Xda. I've no problems with Wifi connecting to Unifi. Connection was instantaneous as what has been on LPY. I'll keep to this combo until some nice custom LPF Rom shows up then I'll go LPF all the way. No point in flashing to the latest everytime something new comes out just to find out later some features/functions are broken. As of now, my very early impression of the kernel is rather positive and hope to observe some improvements once everything kinda settle down. |

Yeah, I guess that's the only difference. I didn't flash the whole package.

There's still no real confirmation yet as to whether restore works using the native kernel. One/two persons able to restore and others failed to restore. So there's no conclusive evidence that restore is solved in the latest incarnation of the Rom.

IMHO, the best current hybrid ROM would be a mixture of RR V1 (based on LPY) flashed with LPF CF kernel using LPF modem.

QUOTE(Superman7 @ May 19 2012, 04:36 PM) what is the reason of flashing LPF kernel on the RR V1? Better performance? Well, RR1 has proven to be quite a slick ROM. And LPF brings nothing much in addition. Flashing the whole LPF ROM means flashing whatever limitations (if there are any) that come with the ROM i.e. language choice, etc. Some people say that LPF is zippy. However, you need not flash the whole ROM to experience it. Suffice to flash the kernel only because that's where the optimizations are done and most likely found.or is it because LPF is safer than LPY? And I get to retain all my apps and settings in RR1 without needing to re-setup and enjoying the benefits of the LPF kernel since LPF is a full-wipe ROM. Yeah, I'm a lazy person. Until the next "BIG" thing comes, I feel that there's no need to flash as soon as any new ICS ROMs leaks/distributed. This in a way will also prevent possible bricking. If you read in Xda, most of the time people flash blindly to the latest everytime something new comes out without blinking an eye. Well, this is just my opinion and preferred path. Others might have different thoughts and approach. This post has been edited by nas: May 19 2012, 04:52 PM |

Problem with wifi occurs on the LPF ROM due to combination of CF LPF Root kernel and LPF ROM. Seems like they don't get together well.
However, you may try to root using Dr. Ketan's method without flashing CF LPF's kernel. |

Check this article out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661616 Kinda technical but worth the read and knowing Google and hopefully Samsung is working towards fixing the bricking issue on recent ICS ROMs. |

So, the advisable path to flashing Paranoid is using PC Odin back to one of the rootable stock Roms and then abyss 4.2 with full wipe then only Paranoid?

I'm currently on RR V1 with CF LPF kernel. Can I just flash this directly using PC Odin or do I still need to go back go GB first?
Is it safe to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the tar file directly from within the current ROM? |

@benny888/@jjamain, would love to hear your inputs later on the differences between our region's newly released ICS ROM versus the LPY/LPF ones after using it. I doubt there'll be any major differences but would love for those who have updated to confirm.
I'll download the ROM when I get home tonight and will try to refrain my trigger fingers from doing anything stupid until after some further feedback from those who have flashed A great day today for all us here. |

QUOTE(benny888 @ May 22 2012, 01:17 PM) Yes. Your Franco kernel will be replaced by ics lp6 kernel Thanks. This will remove root from my device. Can we use Dr. Ketan's method to get root back?Added on May 22, 2012, 1:20 pm You can directly flash it using odin in PC or mobile odin . No necessity to revert back to gb rom |

Thanks Benny.
There's been a lot of discussion going on on whether to use pc/mobile odin to flash. But looking at your posts, you prefer/recommend to use mobile odin to flash. Just one more confirmation is, in order to preserve root, just leave all default options selected by MO right? Then select wipe data/cache and dalvik. |

I believe those of us who have flashed the other ICS ROMs be it official or customized have had earlier exposure on ICS therefore flashing this one doesn't provide anymore 'ooomph'. Those who are still in GB and flash to the official ROM will find more pleasure so to speak because of the greater differences between the two
Still feel that Rocket ROM coupled with LPF kernel gives the best performance so far. Btw, those who complained about high memory usage in this official ROM may try to use TiBU to freeze those unnecessary apps. This may free up some memory and increase battery life. |
